Yes the first step is to admit you have a problem. It takes some people longer than others of course as we are all different. It just depends on where they are in their addiction before they understand that they have a problem.

Start doing things that don't involve drinking. Go out to fun places and keep him busy doing things that will keep his mind off of drinking. AA would be a good thing for him though as he could go to meetings and meet with people that have the same problem as he does and they could support eachother.

Where I live they don't sell alcohol in grocery stores. They have a Liquor Mart or Beer Stores where that's the only thing they sell there. It keeps it out of the sight of minors who may be shopping with parents. Maybe more places should adopt this type of thing for sales of alcohol.

Bars will have incidents because when too much alcohol is consumed there is bound to be trouble. Bar owners and waitresses should notice when some people have had too much to drink and cut them off.

Where I live the drinking age is 18. I know some places it's 19 or 21. What should the drinking age be and what is it where you live?

When you don't know where to turn AA is there to help and you'll find the support and support each other as you fight through your addiction to alcohol. If you feel like you don't know what to do just give them a call. I did and it changed my life for the better.

It is very dangerous to mix any kind of drug and it can have deadly consequences. Mixing drugs can cause serious side effects or even death.

DO NOT EVER MIX DRUGS OR LET ANYONE MIX DRUGS!!!!!

Is rehab the best way to beat a drug addiction or are there better ways?

I think rehab is the best because it has everything you need to recover and stay away from everything that got you addicted to and dependant on drugs.

Visiting message boards like this one is something I like to do. It's good to be able to talk to people around the world facing addictions.

I also like to play some games online and I really ebjoy playing games against people from different parts of the world. I was just playing chess with someone from Japan so that was cool.

I like to play games online too but I don't play everyday. I occasionally like to play a game every now and then. It's fun when you can play against people from around the world and I can see how people can get addicted to gaming but I am still able to control my gaming habits at this time.

I could do without TV for long periods. I like camping and usually go camping for a week or two every summer so we are without TV and all the other technology of today.

There are many different ways to quit of course and each person has to try it.

There are people quitting every day and there are people starting every day that's why it seems like it's not working but of course people are quitting it's just that there are new people that start up smoking.

The tobacco companies and the governments are the ones making the money.

The patch works for some people and doesn't work for others. We are all different and some people use different things to quit. The patch is supposed to help get rid of the nicotine cravings. Therefore if you do use the patch you shouldn't smoke at all with them.

All you know is you aren't doing it anymore but you never really know what the future holds. An alcoholic knows they're an alcoholic forever because all it takes is that one drink to put them back on the path to destruction. They may be sober for 5, 10 or 15 years but they still consider themselves an alcoholic.

I find if I keep healthy food in the house I don't have to worry about junk food because I don't have any. I can snack on the healthy things like carrots or celery. If you do like to have junk food make sure you don't buy a lot. Maybe just buy one thing. One bag of chips or something like that.

I will spend 2 dollars on the lottery each week but that's it. 52 weeks a year so that's $104 a year on lottery. How much do you spend on lottery or other gambling?

If you're someone who enjoyed watching television I can see how it would be hard to fill the void. There are hundreds of different channels now but the stations are saturated with garbage programming just to get the advertising dollars.

As with all types of drugs, prescription included, there are always side effects some of which can be life theatening. When you abuse them that risk increases ten-fold. You need to always consult your doctor and seek medical attention immediately if you have any serious side effects.

A Utopian World would be something nice if it could be achieved. With the way things are going it looks like humans will never learn from their history. Most people are in pursuit of money instead of love and happiness.

I must admit I haven't watched too much porn in my life but as a teenager I liked to look at Playboy and those types of magazines. How often and how much porn do you watch or look at? Is it everyday? Every chance you get? Is all you think about is porn?

That's true drugs turn you into a slave to them so you can get that temporary high. Once that high has a grip on you you never want to let it go and you will do anything to get it back when it goes.

If only they would arrest and prosecute all drug dealers. It seems they don't do enough to get all the big fish in the drug industry. Some are better than none I suppose.

How do you know when you should do an intervention? Does anyone know how well this works? Is it always the best to bring professional help into the intervention?

I know intervention is better than doing nothing but how do you know when to do it?

Yes as with any addiction it's all up to the person who is addicted if they want to stop or not. If they have the will power to do it and really want to stop the destruction of themself then that's the only way it'll work obviously, but is it the best way for someone that wants to do it?

Weed wasn't too big of a problem for me and I did use it but it never did control me. I was able to ditch that habit easier than smoking cigarettes. Weed for me just got to a point where I didn't like it no more so I stopped smoking and that was a long long time ago.
