Lindsay Lohan Checks out of Drug Rehab

Lindsay Lohan has checked out of drug and alcohol treatment program in Utah that she entered in August. Lohan, now 21 years old, left the Cirque Lodge treatment center on Friday afternoon. Her parents are proud of her, Lindsay's mom says she's moving ahead with her life. She really needed to heal. Lohan's trip to Cirque Lodge was her third trip to rehab since January, a crazy year in which she wrecked a Mercedes-Benz, released the box office flop "I Know who Killed Me" and was arrested more than once.

In these recent years, she's become more popular for nonstop appearances on the Hollywood nightclub scene, than for her previous movies. In both incidents of her arrests, Lohan was found in possession of small amounts of cocaine. And in August, she reached a plea deal on misdameanor drunken driving and cocaine charges stemming from the arrests. The deal called for her to enter treatment, spend a day in jail, and perform community service.

Immediately following her sentence, Lohan released a statement, "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs."
Drinking down sorrows

A study in rats suggests moderate alcohol consumption improves recall. And very moderate alcohol consumption may actually improve memory. Among the normal rats, the animals that consumed moderate amounts of alcohol fared better on both tests compared with the teetotalers. Rats on a heavy alcohol diet did not do well on object recognition, and in fact showed signs of neurotoxicity. But they performed better than their normal brethren on the emotional memory task.

Which, in conclusion, this test is bad news for drinkers if you recently experienced something that you don't want to remember too vividly, like trauma. People often drink to drown their sorrows. The results suggest that this could actually paradoxically promote traumatic memories and lead to further drinking, contributing to the development of alcoholism.
Prescription Drug Addiction Rivals any Addiction

In Mansfield, a terminally ill woman's son stole pain reliever from her. She was on fentanyl patches, he would take the patch off her, extract as much of the drug as he could and then tape it back on her. His excuse was he was just an addict and the health care agency would be there in a short amount of time, so it didn't matter. This is the power of prescription drug addiction. Of the 20 most abused drugs, 14 are pharmaceuticals.

There's been a resurgence of heroin, a huge concurrent explosion in illicit trafficking. A lot of people start out on pharmaceuticals, many times for valid reasons, and they end up becoming addicted. Heroin is generally cheaper and easier to find. Abusers often use Oxycontin or Percocet as a substitute of heroin. Any type of street drug, you can find a prescription drug that mirrors the effects. Addicts can develop a tremendous tolerance, using 10-15 or more pills a day is not uncommon.

According to Richland County coroner's office, most of the 19 overdoses that occured in 2006, were a mixture that included pharmaceuticals. The elderly population is an emerging trend in divergent pharmaceuticals. They're victims of theft many times and in some cases, they'll sell their own prescriptions for additional income.
Does loss of custody help or hurt a mother's recovery?

What happens to a mother with a substance abuse problem when her children are taken away? For a mother that's been in and out of rehab, it's almost a guarantee that your spouse can get full custody. Last week, a Los Angeles judge gave Britney Spear's ex-husband, Kevin Fenderline, temporary full custody of their two sons.

Whether taking a mother's children away can serve as a wake-up call to an abuser is a controversial issue. It can certainly be a motivator, no matter how much someone struggles with an addiction, their love for their children can encourage them to work harder.

In an ideal situation, a mother struggling with an addiction would voluntarily have another family take care of their children while they work on their problems. But removing children can have mixed results.
Internet Porn - Worse than crack?

The Internet is the perfect drug delivery system because you are anonymous, aroused and have role models for those behaviors. To have drug pumped into your house 24/7, free, and children know how to use it better than grown ups know how to use it better than grown-ups know how to use it. It's a perfect delivery system if we want to have a whole generation of young addicts who will never have the drug out of their system.

Pornography addicts may have a more difficult time recovering fromt their addiction than cocaine addicts, since coke users can get the drug out of their system, but pornographic images stay in the brain forever. Pornography really does, like other addictions biologically cause direct release of the most perfect addictive substance. It causes a release of naturally occurring opiades; it does what heroin can't do, in a sense.

Maybe ask for a low, low dose of the medication you're on. My friend has basically situational depression and she basically gets medication they use to treat kids with depression, so maybe try that??

What age exactly is it talking about, like preteens? Hmm, we were sort of talking about this in my Psych class the other day how kids are way more susceptible to getting addiction. During childhood, I always knew who Joe Camel was, I didn't think he was bad or anything. And when I turned 18, I bought my first pack and I said I wanted Camels because I had no idea about cigarettes. So yeah, but I couldn't even finish one and I gave the pack away. But I guess for some kids if their parents smoke then they're more likely to get addicted.

In Philadelphia, a mother of a 14-year-old boy who authorities say had a stash of guns, knives and explosive devices in his bedroom for a possible school attack was charged Friday with buying her son three weapons.

The woman, Michelle Cossey, bought her home-schooled son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22 caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, authorities said. The teenager felt bullied and tried to recruit another boy for the possible attack at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in suburban Philadelphia. The police told NBC news that the boy had confessed to plotting the attack.

The police acted based on a tip from a high school student and his father, the police found the rifle, about 30 air-powered guns, swords, knives, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine attack in Colorado and violence filled notebooks in the boys room.

The boy also had a myspace page, which was filled with references to the Columbine shootings in a tribute to the gunmen. He also had the attackers listed among his heroes. The district attorneys blamed the boy's parents for his violent fantasies and alienation.

These are insane stories OMG who would try to drive after taking hallucinagen mushrooms? I think they should've been made them illegal months ago, many young tourists think they can get all messed up on vacation and end up getting killed. But it may end up being a good thing that it's getting media attention because more people can support it being legalized.

I think it's just government control, for taxes to support things like schools. My entire community college was built from revenues of cigarette tax :]

Especially high school and middle school kids, I've heard of them buying pills when they don't even know what they are. Dealers will just give them a hand full of pills and take the money!

I checked that site out, it looks pretty legit, but the thing is with these sites, if they're getting suspicious, they can just get a new url and do the same process over, I can't believe how many medicines they have access to...!

Yeah that Celebrity Rehab show is actually pretty entertaining, it's so interesting. But I can't even watch The real world anymore, they're all exactly the same and Road Rules is equally as retarded. I don't even have cable because my mom doesn't want me to watch all of those shows.

Gaining Weight in the Workplace

A recent study shows that most employees are gettig a plumper waistline instead of a fatter paycheck.
- 49% of workers say they've gained more than 10 pounds at his or her present job
- An Additional 13% of employees have gained more than 20 pounds
Some employees don't leave the building for their meals.
- 13% of workers say they eat lunch out of vending machines at least once a week
- 58% of workers say they eat out for lunch at least once a week
-12% eat out five times a week for lunch
If your job seems to be packing on more pounds, here are some simple ways to be healthier at work.
1.) Indulge without guilt. Let's face it, sometimes dessert is just too hard to pass up. The key is everything in moderation. Have one piece of birthday cake. When finished, throw out the fork and plate and just walk away.
2.) Use your commute. Burn more calories by parking a little further away and walking the rest of the way.
3.) Brown-bag it. Packaging your lunch will not only help you to control your nutrition and portions- it'll also fatten your wallet, instead of your tummy.
4.) Put in some face time. Instead of emailing, calling or instant messaging your co-worker, walk over to him or her. The extra steps will add up.
5.) Keep your mouth busy. Chewing gum or chatting with co-workers can help you to avoid that second trip to the sweet table at office holiday celebrations.
6.) Drink and be merry. We all get a little stir-crazy at work and sometimes we turn to food for distraction.
-69% of workers snack once per day, 37% snack twice per day, 12% snack at least three times per day
7.) Stock the shelves. Pack your office drawers with healthy, filling snacks, so it will be easier to elude comfort food temptations on chilly days.
8.) Start a support group. Get together with co-workers and start a lunch or fitness group that will keep everyone on track.

Some people prefer going to AA rather than NA.  But you're right it's
important to find the one that appeals to you and your needs.  Make
sure that your leaders are very supportive and open to new speakers and
activities.  I can't tell you how many new rehab centers I've gone to,
but going to AA classes afterwards is what did the trick for me.

Sometimes if you request certain procedures, they can give you medication that can hinder the cravings you get.  I know they do it for meth and stimulants, but I'm not sure if they do it for painkillers, which are opiates.  And they'll give you specific detox regimens to clear you body out the fastest so you're not withdrawaling for days.
