I think I am on my way to being addicted to the internet. I do use it a lot, but I mainly use it to keep in contact with old school-friends, and those who are at a different university to me.

I drink too much diet coke, I know I do. Recently I've been trying to drink more water and fruit juice instead.

Yes, so much relies on the internet that it's hard not to spend even a little time on it each day. Research for school and college, or even your job; banking; emails; talking to friends...we do so much on the internet in our everyday lives, so it is difficult to judge if you are addicted or not.

I too seem to be having some trouble navigating around this forum. Perhaps it's because I'm used to other forum software. I'm sure I can get used to it though!

I'm not sure of a term, but I definitely think myspace and sites like it are causing people to become addiced to them.

My sister will sometimes spend hours and hours on myspace, simply updating her profile, commenting other people and awaiting comments from friends. Whenever a new comment hits her inbox she'll get incredibly excited. I myself can't see the appeal of myspace, nor why it is so addicting.

Perhaps it could be termed "social network addiction"?

I agree, chat rooms can be addictive. I don't have a compelling need to chat on them, but I do like popping in now and again on some sites that I visit. It is sometimes hard to leave, especially when there's an interesting conversation going on, but for myself it's not too much of a problem.

I disagree, I think parents would be happier for children to watch TV than go on the internet. Just think about all the dangers of the internet - online predators for one.

And there are health problems associated with using the internet as well - RSI and eyesight problems to name two.

As others have said, as long as you don't let making money on the internet compromise your real life, it shouldn't be a problem. I use a few sites to make some money, but it's nothing big. I've probably made around £50 in about six months, mainly through survey sites and cashback sites.

Basically smoking is being banned in public places - eg. clubs, pubs, bars, anywhere that is considered an enclosed public space. This also includes company cars used by more than one person.

Here's the website about it:

Does anyone else buy a lot of magazines? I tend to average two or three magazines a week, which I mainly buy because I'm bored in the staff room at work, or bored travelling on the train. I need something to occupy me, and a magazine does that.

A lot of the gossip and celeb magazines have the same stories in, so basically I'm reading over the same things. I always try to remember my book, so I won't have the need to buy a magazine, but more often than not I forget.

I wouldn't say I was addicted to buying magazines, as they're something to pass the time during my train journeys, but I feel that I buy more than I should.

Anyone else?

I love Evanescence's album "Fallen". The songs feel full of emotion and some of the lyrics really hit home with me.

I check my mail quite frequently, usually when I've run out of anything else to do on the computer. Like someone else said, I get the feeling of missing out on something if I don't check it fairly frequently.

Yeah, I know that about books as well. I once read a book by a particular author, then went out and bought all the other books by her as well. I know that I could have gone to the library, but it was an extra hassle, you know?

I use ebay quite a lot, but not to the extent of obsession or addiction. I think it's great for finding bargains, and I do buy a fair amount from there.

I tend to go through 'phases' of obsession with internet games. For example, a few months ago I was a little obsessed with an RPG website, and was on it a LOT for about two weeks. Then the novelty wore off and I moved on.

I think you just have to pace yourself and limit the amount of time you are spending on gaming websites, because it is very easy to start playing and then look up four hours later and think "where's the day gone?"

I've found myself buying more and more from catalogues lately, and then simply returning the clothes when they arrive and I have tried them on. It's really easy just to phone up and order something.

I spend most of my time on the Harry potter forum that I co-admin. But I'm not sure if that's different, because I am an admin - I have to be there to sort things out etc.

I think forums can definitely be addictive. I help run a forum, and I can definitely say I am addicted, but in a good way I think. I love running it and coming up with new ideas for the members.

I don't really know any guys that like to go shopping. It just doesn't seem like a very guy thing to do - go around the shops with your friends.

It is incredibly hard to stick to what you're doing workwise when the internet is right there, but when I absolutely have to get work done, I switch my router off, and that's in the other room so it's not easy for it to switch back on.

Basically just removing the temptation.

I've been guilty of buying for the sake of buying in the past, though usually only on one-offs.
