I forgot to mention that I am only occasionally depressed over the last 3 years Before  that I was depressed much more frequently.I think the reason for this is that I quit drinking smoking and gambling  now for 4 years and also I am doing a program.Drinking smoking and gambling were problably the main causes of my depression for many years. Thanks.....Tower

Even after 4 years of no smoking or drinking I still sometimes feel down in the dumps and bored.I find it helps to do something new and differant.Accually posting on this site is new and differant for me and as I type this my boredom is going away.Talking to other addicts also gets me out of my self-centeredness Self-centeredness is a commom symptom of addiction.By talking to each other we help each other to deal with our addiction

AA and  prayer has kept me sober for 4 years now.'Getting ' your higher power can take some time but I believe it is essential to staying sober.I go to meetings and like you there are things I don't like about the meetings but the program does work.I am very new to this site and therefore don't have an informed opinion on it.I don't think online meetings can replace face to face meetingsI am going to get more involved with this site I am going to a meeting tonight because I think its in my better interest although I often find it hard to motivate myself to do so.I am not sure why its so hard to motivate myself Problably its one of the symptoms of my disease

Seizures can be serious sign of withdrawl I used to drink heavily but never had a seizure however I definitely needed help in order to get off alcohol and stay off of it I tried to quit drinking by myself for about 15 years without much success.I needed detox center and AA Groups and as a result I haven't drank for 4 years. Treatment saved my lifeMost alcoholics will drink again even if they have quit for a long time if they do not continue a long term theraphy program.Good luck to your friend.
