I wonder what the pill is called that you're talking about and how exactly does it stop addiction?  It seems to be pretty effective, and it's good that so many people are getting help from it though.

To me, a porn addiction would be a lot more embarassing.  Ususally people hide their porn viewing in the first place, so why would they be more open to talking about it, even more so than video game addiction...?

That makes me sad to hear that.  I always thought girls were the ones who were obsessed with their bodies.  But it seems like a lot of guys are obsessed with the way they look too.   That's not a normal life, you're right.  They will never be happy with the way they look, even though to other people they already are perfect.

I think it has to do with how intoxicated you were when you got caught.   There's dry and wet driving.  But I'm not 100 percent sure on this.

A lot of girls feel pressured to be sexy.  But you don't necessarily have to have sex to be sexy.  Girls are being totally influenced by the wrong messages.  And boys too, but it's all about how we raise our kids these days.

Well since he's on probation, he needs to be really careful about not getting into trouble, and also with the people he hangs around with.  It's really easy for him to go to jail for something he normally would just have minor punishment for.  And since he's going to rehab, I think your family should be really supportive and loving with him.  He may seem like a different person, but he's really not.  Drugs can change people, but a good family can do wonders for someone.  My cousin went to jail before for crystal meth and he's still in rehab right now, but he's such a better person.  He got really into church and I love him just the same.  It took him a few times through rehab to finally quit.  My aunt and uncle spent thousands of dollars on treatment, but in the end it's worth it.

This man's story is pretty hilarious, but sad if you think about it.  Why didn't he just stay in Sweden to drink there?  It's common to have impaired judgement while drinking, that's why a lot of people end up in strange situations... We all know some crazy drinking stories.

I the bible is says that we will have a new body and be able to walk with God. But we cannot know right now or even imagine what heaven will be like.  But Jesus does say that my father does have many mansions.... we really have no idea what it will be like though.

Isn't there a long standing myth that the creative are more prone to addiction, because addiction stems from the same source as the creative instinct?  That they will lose their abilities if their crutches are taken from them?  I've always thought this was true.  Sort of like the thrill-seeking behavior, impulsive behavior.

Apparently in Span there are 400 new pro anorexia sites that were found recently.  And their is much debate over whether criminal offenses have been made.  The Spanish-language websites and blogs, mainly read by young women ages 12-28 were discovered by the technology unit of the national police.  One one site there was even a competition for the girls who lost the most weight in 14 days.

Men are more likely than women to report alcohol and drug abuse.  However there hasn't been very much research done on the success rates.  I hope they'd be about the same.  I think it depends which recovery process you choose.  Men and women might handle the 12- step process differently.
Eastern Medicine

Why are American doctors so reluctant to explore eastern medicine and therapy instead of prescribing so many pills?  Painkillers only trick the brain into not feeling the pain, but through physical/massage therapy, patients can help reduce the pain instead of just blocking pain receptors.  The only problem with this is that it can be expensive, but I think well worth it.  Accupuncture has been used by a lot of people who deal with chronic pain, also herbal supplements and certain foods.   These methods do not carry side effects and you cannot become addicted to them.
Compulsive Shopping

Closets of clothes with price tags still on them is a major sign of shopping addiction.  It's a way to not feel and deal with one's emotions.  The biggest sign if shopping when feeling angry or upset.  After the high following the fabulous buy, the addict feels guilty, and then they go shopping again to feel better.  It's not about the clothes, it's about the misconception that buying it will make the person feel better, but it's just a big cycle of depression and neglect of emotions.

Functioning alcoholics often justify their alcohol use.  My dad frequently uses alcohol, and he use to call himself a functioning alcoholic when he was heavily into drinking.  He would drive buzzed, but often was too drunk to drive.  It's scary how casual alcohol use is, but how out of control and dangerous it can be.
Oxycontin Addicts Turning to Heroin

The availiability of oxy is getting lower and the prices are increasing to over $80 per pill.  However, the cost of a hit of heroin remains cheap at only $4.  Oxy addicts and prescription drug abusers 18-26 are the primary users moving to heroin.  Kids in rich white collar suburban neighborhoods are turning into heroin addicts to escape withdrawals and parents and family members can't react fast enough.

I think it'd be best for you to surround yourself with family members and positive friends.  Regarding addicts, there is no controlling destructive habits, it's all about taking things to the extreme.  If I were in your position, I'd probably work on the behavior that's affecting me the most.  Having wild, random sex is like playing russian roulette with your body, you could catch an std easier than you know and that could ruin  your life. Hooking up is just sex without disregard of feelings and emotions, it's all about in the moment sexual attraction.  That behavior can be really addictive and hard to get away from.  Look at all of the people in your life and really think if they have your best interests at heart and if they're really your friends, or just using you.  AA meetings helped me a lot when I felt I was spiraling out of control.  You're brave to admit all of this... I wasn't, I knew in my heart I needed help, and going about things with just my help made my recovery a lot slower and harder.  For now on, think about how your decisions and behavior are affecting your life and everyone around you.  If you know in your heart that  you're a good person and you're doing things right, then you can be a positive role model and inspiration in someone's life.  And you can be proud of yourself for turning your life around.

Home Smoking Ban

A new study has found that parents who enforce a no smoking ban in their house have teens who are less lilkely to become smokers or even experiment with cigarettes.  Teens who grow up with smoking bans tend not to find smoking as a norm or socially acceptable.  Teens who allowed smoking at home also tended to think a higher percentage of adults in the community smoked, compared to teens with household bans.  Smoking bans actually decrease the incidence of smoking by half.  These bans send a strong message to teens that it's not OK to smoke, and in the face of so many other external factors that may influence teens to smoke -- peers, advertising -- a home smoking policy is one thing that parents can control to some extent.

There are a lot of people who interpret the bible differently and make excuses for drinking.  But I agree that it's best to simply stay away from it altogether.  Some people think it's okay to drink a little, but it's wrong to be drunk.  However, the whole practice of drinking is unsafe and unwise.  While drinking, the alcohol is in control, not the Holy Spirit.  And a person has to seek wine, and the practice of that isn't smart at all, it leads to unhealthy situations and will eventually change who you are.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, I'm sure you're glad to have beat the habit!  When I finally realized that all of the things I owned were starting to control me, I finally decided that I had enough and would concentrate on myself through the inside, rather than the outside.  Once in a while I'll splurge... I just bought a flat screen for my room but I made myself wait about three months before I could really afford it, and I got it for a great deal!  Now I think about all the reasons, consequences of spending before I buy.  I use to think ok, this would be really cool to have.  But buying one thing usually means buying several other things along with it... after buying my tv, I realized okay now I have to buy a DVD player... and rent movies!  And cable lol, thankfully my parents got a really good deal.  But if they had to pay an outrageous bill, I would have said no thanks, because I knew it wouldn't be worth it.

  • Implement and enforce strong policies to aid in the prevention, cessation and elimination of tobacco use across campus
  • Lobby state legislatures to create laws to prohibit tobacco use on campus.

My entire junior college campus was funded from the tobacco tax in California.  I really love this school, it's brand new and really modern.  I don't see the point in refusing funding from tobacco taxes, at least it's going to a good cause!  Also, smoking on campus is prohibited in some ways, they have designated smoking areas, which is a safe way to monitor.  It wouldn't be smart to make students smoke in the parking lot.  I think the other policies could make a difference, but I don't see the point in these initiatives.

That's absolutely insane, they must have thought they were going to get off clean!  The officer said they were acting funny, they probably were smoking the whole way to Atlanta lol.  I think it's crazy when people think they can get drugs smuggled across airlines, that's like a one in a million chance!

Well in the case of sexual abuse, I think the outcome of the person depends a lot on how the situation was handled.  I have a friend who was sexual abused by a family friend, but was too scared to say anything for a long time.  She felt ashamed by it and eventually told her mom and the man was kicked out and since then she hasn't seen or heard from him.  I think there should've been legal actions taken, but that's just how her parents went about it.  I think she has self esteem issues because of it, but she doesn't use drugs and alcohol.  There are a lot of child sexual abuse cases that go unheard, and sometimes parents refuse to believe their own kids in the case of a step father or biological father, it's so sad.

I really like these quotes, it makes me appreciate my friends.  And they're absolutely true.  Even if I had the most beautiful house to live in, with everything my heart desired, if I didn't have one friend, I would still be a miserable person.  Your friends help make you the person you are, they'll always be there for you, and sometimes understand you more than your own family.  Some of my best memories are wtih my best friends and I love that, I wouldn't trade them for anything (=
