Why did she give them permission to search her car? That is weird..did she want to get caught or was she that messed up that she didn't know what she was saying? It seems like innocent people always get caught up in drugs even if they don't want to. Like you see in movies..one character tells another to deliever a package and it's really drugs inside the box and they have no idea what they are doing.

Have any of you guys heard the latest on watermelon? Doctors are saying it has something in it that acts like viagra. I even heard on the news that they are trying to produce more of it in each melon! I guess it's way cheaper than getting medicine and I guess it's kind of like oysters or whatever that kind of does the same thing..strange.

I didn't know this, but official title of internet addiction is IAD (Internet Addictive Disorder) or IOS (Internet Overuse Syndrome) and is still not recognized by the American Psychiatric Association. Some doctors believe though that it should because it has the 4 symptoms of any addiction: excessive use, withdrawal, tolerance and negative repercussions. How do diseases end up in the diagnostic book? Does anyone know? I think with time it will be because it seems like most people these days are struggling with addiction.

I bet this is hard on the family they come home to also. If your husband or wife comes back losing a ligament or can't see that is going to affect both of your lives forever. I think it takes a lot to be a military spouse because you just don't know what could happen.

You both have every right to be proud. It must take such a toll on a family to have someone trapped in an addiction and I bet the feeling is indescribable when they successfully get out of it and turn their lives around. Congrats!

Did you know 1 in every 200 woman have an eating disorder. Think about how many woman in a public place has one and we don't even know or see it and only 1 in every 10 get treatment. If you know someone who has an eating disorder encourage them to seek help. It is a scary disease that needs to be battled.

Police were called to the scene when someone called them saying someone was peeing outside a bar around 1am. When they arrived, a 17-year-old girl told police that she was outside when Dick left the bar, walked up, "grabbed her tank top and bra and pulled them down and exposed her breasts," the statement said. They also found marijuana and xanax in his pocket. Crazy. You should look up his booking photo!! I didn't even recognize him!

I think there will be a revolution very soon. If you read the news at all you will see every day an article about addiction and even more now more and more cities and countries are trying to ban smoking. I think the government is trying to make a stand and make the air we breath better. They can't do it alone though and I'm sure it will take years to make and take addiction seriously.

NY does the same test after a shooting is involved and either this week or last week an officer tested positive after he shot at someone off duty. His department is sticking with him though saying he did the right thing and took action when it was needed. He is back at work carrying his badge and gun. At least his police commissioner is standing by his side, maybe officers will be more careful when they are out, but again he wasn't on duty drinking so he just happened to be at the right place at the right time and he did what he thought he needed to.

A new study conducted at the University of Minnesota Medical School found that families who at least have 5 meals together a week, the teenager daughters were less likely to do drugs or even drink alcohol 5 years down the road. The team followed 806 teens from their area, 55% were girls and 45% were boys. They first surveyed the teens in 1998-99 when they were around 13 and asked them about their use of substance and how often they ate together as a family. They followed up 5 years later and found that the teenage girls who had at least 5 meals together as a family had a much lower risk of substance abuse.

There is also that new ban in the whole state of NY where you can't smoke at any rehab facility. Do you guys think this is a good or bad move? I think their purpose is to try and make everyone sober from everything, but I also heard that addicts don't even have hope to try now because they don't think they can give up their addiction without smoking. I hope people are still willing to try at least.

My friend is dating a mentally abusive boyfriend and I am very worried about her. He puts her down all the time and tells me she feels like she can't do or meet anyone better because she feels stupid and ugly, which she isn't! He also gets mad at her when she hangs out with friends and is always yelling at her. What can I do to help? He's always breaking up with her too and then told someone he only is with her because he feels bad for her..What can I do for her?

I'm really happy to hear that things are going better for you. I'm sure with time things will work out, but in the meantime I'm sure there will be mountains in the way. I totally know what you're talking about. My thing is jeans. I have to buy designer jeans or I don't feel good about myself. I have no idea why I care so much, but I think I feel people look at your butt a lot and notice what you wear so I like people to think I can afford nice pants, when in actuality I can't. It's gotten so bad that I started selling them on Amazon to try to get some money back for the jeans that I wore one time..this is a problem for me and I am trying to overcome it, but it's very hard. I'm not sure if mine is an addiction or from society telling me how to dress and almost be so materialistic.

Although it may not seem like very much, any drug is very dangerous and bad for you. There are so many chemicals in them and sometimes different combos are deadly. I think too when you don't have a high tolerance for something, even if the same amount doesn't harm the person next to you, doesn't mean that it won't harm you.
Suicide Rate

By the end of August the total number of suicidal deaths this year in the war is 93 while 31 are still being investigated. If this trend continues, it will exceed for the first time since Vietnam and will be even higher than last year’s total. The USMC, which is the second largest force in Iraq and consists mostly of younger men, had a suicidal rate of 16.5 per 100,000 people in 2007. The Air Force and Navy had rates of a little over 10 per 100,000 people.

The parents of Virginia high schools received some good news. It seems as if the states investment in tobacco prevention is helping and they have actually seen a 28% decline in high school smoking. That is good to hear. I don't remember thinking that too many teens smoked when I was in high school, but who knows what people do at home in their spare time or even sneaking it in the parking lot or on their lunch break. I know my parents had a smoking section when they were in high school, but I really don't think those exist anymore..Did any of you have a high percentage of smokers on your high school campus?

MillerCoors is being asked by 25 states to not come out with their new product called Sparks Red. It is a drink that has alcohol and caffeine in it to target young adults. "By introducing Sparks Red, a higher-alcohol-content and even more dangerous version of its Sparks product, MillerCoors is demonstrating an utter disregard for the safety of young consumers," Cuomo said in a statement. "Drinking is not a sport, and my office will not stand idly by as MillerCoors ramps up its efforts to market these potentially harmful products to young consumers."

Video Game Dangers

1. Make kids less active. A recent study showed that both boys and girls are spending 10-14 hours a week playing video games!
2. Teach kids bad values. This is talking about games that let the child pick if they want to be the good character or the evil character.
3. VIOLENCE. Enough said with that.
4. Expense.
5. Bring up topics that parents haven't talked to their children about like sex.
6. Cause fights between friends or siblings. Meaning that kids will fight over who gets to play and things like that.
7. Not that educational
8. They can be ADDICTIVE. World of Warcraft has been cited as one of the most addicting games on the market.

Ya, I also agree. Just because of someones profession you can't tell them not to have a myspace. They should be responsible enough to know not to add students and whatnot, but some teachers don't know and that's when you have teacher-student relationships that are inappropriate.

Good point! Everything in Europe is like double than what it costs in the states. I think it would stop a lot of people from smoking because it would be very expensive.
