Congratulations on making a decision to save your life! It is a liberating feeling to not need a cigarette today. I quit smoking January 3, 2003. I used the patch for about 4 weeks, and that's all I needed. It was really tough the first couple weeks. Night sweats, nightmares, insomnia, a horrible cough, but then it all passed and my own freedom was on the other side. I needed other people who were fighting their own addictions for support. I prayed for the obsession to be removed and it was. Sometimes only for moments at a time, but nonetheless it was gone. Today I very rarely find myself scooting closer to a smoker to smell that stinch. It happens occasionally, but I'm happy to say I haven't been forced into the slavery of smoking again! You can do it!

Hi Dante. It is never easy to come to the decision that Alcohol has become your master. I remember the first time I thought I might have a problem. I was about 16 and had been drinking every chance I got for about 5 years. I too was a blackout drinker. I didn't drink everyday, at first, but when I drank I drank hard! I would go out and say I wasn't going to have but a couple drinks. Hours later I would come to and realize I had a few more than a couple of drinks - all against my own will! I can not decide for you if you are an alcoholic. Neither can anyone else. That is a decision you will have to come to on your own. If it will help you, the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous has information, stories, and directions for alcoholics like me. It might be of benefit for you to read this book. I would be happy to mail you one if you don't know how to get one. You might contact Alcoholics Anonymous and attend a meeting or two, talk to some sober members, and determine for yourself if you need help. Whatever decision you come to you will have made some great friends! My prayers are with you.

Hi LizaJane. OM makes a great point. Try contacting AlAnon in your area. There are plenty of women with alcoholic husbands who can help.

Congratulations of 4 months! That's a long time! In our meetings, for 90 days we say "90 days and 9000 nights". That's what it can feel like sometimes! Stick close to your newfound sober buddies! They need you too!

My husband is a food addict. They have a program with a food plan, and that doesn't include snickers. I understand. I have similar chocolatey problems. I hope some day I have the courage to face them!

Oh, Lenora, I do understand! I am self employed and work way too much! I am so obsessive compulsive that I have to do everything a certain way. That is usually not the easiest or shortest way either! I will stay up working late into the night. I get a lot accomplished and always have work, but at what cost? I'll pray for you if you will pray for me! I'll pray for you anyway!

The hardest part is asking for help. Try contacting alcoholics anonymous in your area. I'd be glad to chat anytime as well!

Get on your knees and ask God to help. Then pick up the phone and call Gamblers Anonymous. There is help. You are not alone. And you don't have to gamble away your life!

My husband is a sex addict. Porn is a big problem for him too. He has been using the 12 steps in Cocaine Anonymous to battle many addictions. Pornography being one of those. You can do it. You made a huge step by coming here!

If it were only that easy Laurine! Look up food addicts anonymous. There are some excellent people in FAA, and they have a great program and a food plan, that does not contain twizzlers!

Hi Mike. I was totally a binge drinker too. I've been sober now a little over 5 years. I got sober in AA. I don't know what it means (whoever said it) that they are strict. And none of my family members attend any programs or meetings. I did go to rehab, but I was outpatient, and in retrospect I don't think I needed it. There is a group of young people in AA (ICYPAA is international version, NMCYPAA is the New Mexico version) and they are definitely great people. I was 23 when I got sober and I wish I had found Young People's AA when I started!

Perfection is rarely acheived. If it were, there would be no room for growth! Right on for your attempt at control! I hope you find that it works well for you!
