My cell phone is probably 2 years old. I don't have this problem but don't know if it is becuase I just don't have the itch or the funds. Do you sell your old stuff and help pay the bills? I would worry about this becoming an addiction.

Unfortunately that is what many people do, spend until they are buried in debt. The finance people love it because they are rolling in the dough.

I agree. For the people whto work on the internet 8 hours a day, they probably would stay off computers when they go home. But, if they chose to go on at home and ignore their family or social life.......that might signal a problem.

I spend 6 - 8 hours a day but some of it is working. But, alot of it is in forums like this.

I am afraid I might be hooked on forums but love the contact with people. I will have to slowly start getting out more instead of isolating myself on this pc.
Addicted to Mylot

I have found myself staying up to 2 or 3 in the morning posting on Mylot. It isn't for the money as I have not made any but I just love connecting with people. But, I also find myself staying home more and not socializing with my friends as I want to get on the computer. Sounds like a potential problem, right?

I think we just hear more about the music or celebrities that are sick. Newpeople like to focus on the negative so when anyone that is in the news gets in trouble, we hear about it.

It is too sad that these tragedies happen. We had something similiar like that happen in Nebraska. The person had gone to a emergency center and been turned away. I don't know what to suggest.

I think 40 to 50 hours a week is plenty. You lose your effectiveness after that. Working under 40 hours, you ususally don't get benefits and we all need that.

If you don't want to be there, of course you are not going to get better. You have to want to get the help to do the work involved. Counseling is hard work in my mind. It is a struggle but worth it.

It is critical to get the right doctors to treat depression. I hope your friend went and found aother doctor that was willing to treat him Alot of the decision is based on what type of depression you have and how serious it is.

Maybe their addictions have caused depression so bad that they can't deal with it?

There has got to be a way that we could all write someone or call someone to get more help for the menatl patients in the US. It is so tragic to read about people causing harm everyday just becuase they couldn't get help. Does anyone have any ideas?
Can a movie or TV influence your sobriety?

Does seeing addictive behavior in a movie or television show influence you and make you want to drink or use? For example there is a lot of depictions of shooting up in the movie "Ray" about Ray Charles.

I think all of those things you mention are good ways to help stay on the straight and narrow path. Willpower or as some people like to call it won't power is very important of course.

I think it is important to have God on your side, but He is not going to stop you from drinking or drugging. You have to ask Him to help you find the strength.

Another headache for bar owners is that some states are passing laws that hold the establishment selling the alcohol resonsible for an alcohol related accident or death.

You're right of course. However I think when you are newly sober it is a good idea to avoid even being near it.

I have seen people that just stock up on them if they do a lot of flying, and then always have a drink with them.

I would agree. Now on the other hand if you are staying up and not going to bed to play online games, then you are heading into addicted behavior territory.

I did not see the special, but I hope for his sake he can stay sober. Being in the entertainment industry can be a hard place to stay clean.

That is really all you need to be careful with is the amount of salt and butter. There are worse things you can do to your body.
