Is it hopeless?

I need help!

I have been smoking for seven years now, and finally the time has come for me to quit. I have tried nicotine replacements which just make me ill. I have tried will power but I have anxiety attacks. Through my life I have had many problems with drink, drugs and my mental health. Smoking is my safe haven when I suffer from my panic attacks and cigarettes help me to calm down and function properly again.

If I can’t quit on nicotine replacements or will power alone, what options do I have left?

Marijuana should NOT be legalised. You did not mention all the mental health issues around it. Since it’s re-classification from a class B drug to class C drug in the UK there has been a significant raise in people being referred to psychiatric wards.
Drinking and smoking is a problem, but banning them is not the answer.

That’s a great way of looking at it, it’s like you explode out the other side of the tunnel, you don’t realise that one second it’s all dark and in a flash that’s all behind you!

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys, I’m doing the whole cutting down thing. It’s not going too bad really, every time I need a smoke I make myself wait until I really-really need one. I’ve defiantly cut down considerably! Thanks again.

What if the children are not in any kind of risk billy_boy? If the addiction is not affecting the child or children and is completely hidden away from them? Should they be taken away in that case?

Nice post, you put things in a light that I have never really thought about. To tell you the truth I always though sex addicts were just men in general and loose women, given me food for thought, cheers.
Sex addicts, a real problem or human nature?

I have always believed that sex was just a natural desire, and to have sex as often as possible part of being a human. I just read a post that made me think a bit though,

What are your thoughts, is it a real problem or just human nature?

I agree with vampiregirl, taking a kid’s toys away will not stop an addiction. It may just make things worse, offer an incentive like a new console if they kick the habit, that might work?

Yeah, I’m going to have to say sex is a primal instinct and as such a completely natural thing to desire all day everyday (if you have the drive) and the only reason it is looked down upon is because society has evolved in such a way.

Thanks for all the advice and support, it’s going well I think, I am concentrating on the benefits like the fact that there is more money in my pocket, I don’t smell bad, I don’t have to go outside during a meal on my own... It really helps more than thinking if I don’t quit I’ll die sooner and negative thoughts like that.

Not smoking half as much as I did before, not long now....

Good points there, I agree that legalisation for medical reasons would help thousands of people just like drugs such as morphine do, in that sense I am all for legalisation. But for recreational use it’s a definite No No.

It’s perfectly natural to have erotic dreams, you shouldn’t read too much into them, even if you do there are some strange theories and most of the time it has nothing to do with sex.
I very often have sexually oriented dreams but I have only ever had one real ‘wet dream’ I always wake up just before, strange...?

masturbation over sex?

Has anyone found that they would prefer to masturbate than to have sex? I have a friend who is really concerned that he would rather masturbate than have sex, I am guessing he isn’t alone in this one?
