my addiction

I'm a recovering coke addict. No not the illegal drug, the soft drink. I have always been prone to becoming addicted to caffinated soft drinks. In college I became the vicitim of the cafeteria soda machine. I regularly began to drink 6 twelve oz glasses of soda every single day. That is 900 empty, empty calories. I also could not switch to diet because artifical sweeteners give me migraines. At the beginning of this summer I decided that enough is enough and that I was kicking my cola habit. At first I weaned myself down, and I stopped buying cases of soda to keep in the house. I then would buy 2 or 3 single cans to keep around from the reduced price section at my local supermarket. Now I only have one can in the house and it has been there for 2 going on 3 months. Everytime I think I need to drink some soda I just tell myself no and the can stays there. It is an enormous source of pride for me. I now only drink soda when I go out to eat with friends and even then I tell them that I am only allowed to have two glasses. They are very good about making me stick to what I said. However, if for any reason I REALLY REALLY must have a soda, I then have to walk the half mile to the convience store to buy a bottle. That will usually deter me, but if it doesn't I at least have the satification that I walked an extra mile.
Doctor-Shopping

A 33-year old woman was arrested and charged with doctor-shopping. Officials received an anonymous call earlier this month informing them to look at Melissa L. Barclay for doctor- shopping. An agent learned that she received 420 pills from four different doctors from July 10th till July 29th. And from august 14 till august 27 she got an additional, 195 alprazolam and tramadol and 15 hydrocodone from three separate doctors. From September 14 through September 17th she obtained another 40 hydrocodone, 120 tramadol, and 30 setraline from three different doctors. Once taken into custody she admitted she was addicted to medication and she has been getting pills from three separate doctors.
After reading this story I realized there must be a lot of addicts who doctor shop. I never thought about that. I thought they would just get it from one doctor and once they finish buy them off the streets. But she got a ridiculous amount of pills!

A mother can change her life in ways never imaginable when she gets pregnant. My aunt is the type of woman whos so spoiled and she doesn't care about anyone but herself. She's so messy too. She had 6 pets and all of them died within a week. When we found out she was pregnant we were all like UH OH this baby is not giong to have a good life. But when she had her baby its really amazing how much she cared for it and how much she loved it, she changed her whole life around. She learned to cook so that she could cook for it when it got older, she became clean and always kept the house clean so that it had a nice home. She took such amazing care of it and that was so unexpected by everyone even her.

DonEdBaby said: It's embarrassing for everyone involved.. that show exploits the parents, the kid telling everything, and also the partners that she/he has had sex with.  It's just one of the shows that is completely giving sex a bad name and making it seem like nothing.  I'd be pretty mad if I found out a girl I had once had an intimate relationship with was going on tv to tell her parents!

I never thought about being the other partner. all I thought about was the parents and also how embarassing it would be for the confessor. that would make me really mad too. Sex is supposed to be private but its exploited all over the place.

I think you should tell someone very close to you. Trust them with your problems and they may be able to help you out in more ways than you could imagine. Recovery is very hard without support. I think the first think you should tackle is drugs. Stay away from them, drugs will never get you anywhere in life and they'll bring you down till you hit rock bottom if you let them, dont let them and stop. Get into a treatment center if its too difficult. Then the wild sex with strangers, I suggest that goes next. You never know what you could catch from them and its just not good. Find someone you can settle with and you can have as much sex with them as you want, its safer and better. About gambling your money away, stop that! keep your self away from casinos, put money on the side and save it and whatever you do dont touch it! shopping is necesary in life, I cant tell you to stay away from that but limit yourself. Think of things twice when you buy them and after. And have someone monitor you. Your going to need help in this so I really think you should trust someone. Inform us on whats going on with u :) goodluck!

Its always hard talking to people about serious situations. But I really think recovery is almost impossible without having a friends or family members support. So we should tell other people about our problems, but only people whom we trust with our lives!

There definitely is recovery from smoking and smoking causes a lot of withdrawals. Anxiety, anger, irritability, impatience and restlessness. inability to concentrate, trouble sleeping, bad breath or nasty mouth, stomach pains, nausea or constipation. There will also be psychological withdrawal symptoms.constant hunger, even sadness or depression.
I read on here that out of the millions of smokes in america I think about 48 million, only 3% who are trying to quit actually quit.

Thats very true alesandra about how boys interpret clothing different than girls. I went through a stage wehere I loooved revieling clothing, I thought it was so stylish and I wanted to dress like that. My parents wouldn't let me so I'd take clothes with me and change at school in the bathroom. The boys in my school didn't respect me much because of that, they would be very touchy and just total pricks and I hated that. As I got out of that stage and I started dressing more conservative the boys stopped doing that, I got so much more respect and I loved it.

But back to the kids topic, I do agree that they should not be allowed to wear revieling clothing, it should be a "No" from the start otherwise they'll get used to dressing up like that and they will always want to no matter what age.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I have a friend who is very addicted to Vicodin, she used to go spend $10 on a pill. She needs around 2-3 a day and everyday or else she starts going through withdrawals. When you buy them off the street they are very expensive, so turning to heroin to them is so much better, and they probably wont even think about what they're in for. But someimtes even instead of heroin, they could turn to methadone which is also extremely bad. These addictions are so hard to beat and probably one of the worst to suffer from.

I sure hope so. I was suprised she went through everything she went to, her nervous  breakdown her addiction all of that. I would've never expected it from her, I always thought she would stay a succesful and great young lady. I hope she goes back to that.

Personaly if I was the husband I think I would help her get the treatment she needs and once shes done with gambling I'd file for a divorce, I wouldn't be able to stay with someone like that.

When I first read this post I was thinking "noo way" a credit card would be a verry bad idea. But I like your idea georgey. I think that could work as long as he doesn't try to get a higher limit after fnishing that one. And he should set up to where like 30% fo her paycheck goes to that credit card bill every month.

I dont think they'll be as mad as you think, I'm sure they are going to be a bit angry at first but they'll get over it sooner than you think and they will probably insist on helping. You should let them. Recovering any addiction alone makes it 10 times harder. You should have one of them with you everytime you shop. They can make sure that you dont go and buy things that you dont need. Also not let you buy things that are ridiculously expensive. Accept their help and after a while you'll get used to it and you wont buy things you dont need either. I also suggest going to group meeting. Search for a shoppers annonymous group around your area. I'm sure there is one and you could join, that would help a lot too.

I think my math teacher has an iPod addiction. He walks in the class with both headphones on and then teaches the whole time with one in his ear. I was tlaking to him and he said he keeps 2 ipods with him at all times and he's already had to replace both of them 3 times. He has the 60 gb one, and he said he has to keep shuffeling music because its not enough room. I thought that was crazy!!!! And he buys all his music. He said he spends around $80-$90 a month on music!

Smoking doesn't make a person seem so much cooler so I really dont get why they do it in movies, its dumb. It sends out the wrong message to people and especially kids! they idol these stars, why have them use a cigg because a producer wanted the actor to? They could just cut that out and its not going to make that big of a difference.

Duude said: My brother would make up all kinds of excuses for his addiction to marijuana.  It was so hard to try and talk with him about quitting.  I remember he would say, well at least I'm not drinking hard alcohol or addicted to hard core drugs.  I would tell him it's not the point, anything can be used as a drug.  And he would argue back, well "you were the first one to try marijuana, not me.... You got me into it."  It was so stressful, I guess you can't convince someone why drugs are bad, or why they should quit.  It has to be their choice, that's the important thing.

Ive realised that something needs to happen to people to finally show them that they really do need to quit. Maybe a failed relationship, a DUI... Something big, and its really sad that people allow this to happen to them wehn they couldve stopped while they were ahead. But thats how most addicts are.
