I think women need a lot more emotional support throughout the whole process of recovery. But for me, the steps were just as difficult as any other person in my NA classes. I think it also depends what age the girl is at in her life. A mother of 3 kids may have a totally different recovery than a sixteen year old girl. So I think recovery is dependant on each individual, not different genders.
Finding the right rehab center

Lots of people feel okay with just picking any rehab center, as long as it treats their certain addiction. But it's important to make sure that the rehab center fits you personally so that you can recieve the best support throughout your entire recovery process. So far, I've been to three rehab centers and I never felt comfortable until going to the most recent one. One of my counselors told me that if I'm not letting the program work for me, or it's just not fitting me, I'm almost guaranteed to relapse, even if I complete the program.
"Skip" Legault

The poster boy for the anti-smoking ads, "Skip" Legault apparently is still smoking. Apparently the ad features Skip standing on crutches explaining a laundry list of health problems directly related to smoking. At the age of 28, he had a heart attack, and then another at age 29. One of his legs has been amputated and he's also experienced a stroke- he says it's all directly related to smoking.

This is someone who's willing to step forward and show the public how life threatening smoking really is. The fact that Legault still can't quit smoking demonstrates how extreme this addiction is. In an interview with the Daily News, Legault claims he's never told anyone to quit; he simply tells them his personal effects that smoking has caused him.

Smoking is still the single most reversible, avoidable cause of premature vascular disease. High blood pressure typically takes lifetime treatment. For smoking, you just have to stop smoking and the risks decline.
"Celebrity Rehab"

Has anyone else seen that show "Celebrity Rehab?" I saw the first episode and it's 10x better than I thought it'd be. Each person on the show has a severe addiction, a few of the cast members were on their way to death had they not entered treatment. I recognized nearly all of the characters and was equally shocked by their appearances. I had no idea some of these people were that addicted to drugs and alcohol. Remember that one guy, Kinike from Grease, he's on it and he came absolutely loaded on the first day. Each person had a different story and something to bring to the show. I was so suprised at how very real everyone was. It's a great show.

Yes I agree, just like a smoker would fiend for a cigarette, restless, irritable, obsessive, that's how a sex addict feels about sex. Once they have it, they have this euphora like a high, then they could get really depressed and start wanting it again. But there are different kinds of sex addicts just like there are people who smoke cigars, cigarettes, weed. There's sex with multiple partners, different genders, phone sex, cyber sex.... it's a whole different category.
Understanding Addicts

Being someone who was once an addict, I can relate to many
other individuals going through addiction.
Also, I have a few family members that have battled addiction in the
past. My dad still is battling an
alcohol addiction and my brother is an avid marijuana user. However, I can’t understand how someone that
is not directly related to someone who has an addiction can comprehend how much
of a struggle it can be. It’s a
debilitating lifestyle and poses many dilemmas.

Addicts go through much torment while in the recovery
process. Even for family/friends, it’s
often one of the more challenging experiences that can be encountered.

Yeah I think the most important part of recovery is really wanting to quit more than anything in the world. Without that motivation, you're just setting yourself up for relapses.

Do you think someone starting recovery should work in a drug free environment? Sometimes there's even triggers at work regarding coworkers and if you work with the general public.
