Nope, I confess I didn't know that but is that even legal? Aren't you supposed to be at least 18 ?

I've noticed the same thing too. I think because the background is such a pale lime green that the logout and username button kind of camouflage themselves. I have to look really hard to see them.

I was able to kick the smoking habit, but back when I was a smoker, I had a cigarette the first thing in the morning when I woke up before anything else. It was usually the first thing on my mind every morning.

The first thing I would do is get rid of Cartoon Network. He may cry and become violent, but he is only 8. If you don't control it right now, imagine what it will be like when he is 16. Whenever he throws a tantrum, stay calm, but never give in to him. It seems maybe that he has leaned getting violent has gotten him his way. If he keeps it up, then ban him from television entirely. Television is not a necessity, it is a luxury, so until he learns moderation, it is not going to hurt him to not be able to watch t.v.

Reality shows bore me to death, I don't get what makes them so popular anyway. If I want to see someone make a spectacle of themselves, I'll set up a soapbox and wait for someone with a crazy opinion to show up.

I never watch them, they make me puke, especially American Idol or whatever it is.

The more reality shows that come out, the more boring they get. You would think that people would be sick of them by now, but they are still getting incredible ratings. I have a sinking feeling it is only going to get worse because of the Writers Strike going on. The best thing to do would be to just turn your television off, because almost everywhere you look, there is going to be some sort of reality show.

In a way, the price increases can be a good thing. Maybe they will keep raising the prices so high that people will just stop going. I noticed too that the fast food prices are on the rise. Thank goodness I am addicted to this junk.

I read a story in my local newspaper where the big thing lately is kids sucking in gas fumes from the gas pipe on cars. Supposedly it gives them a quick high. I wonder if they understand how stupid and dangerous this is? I mean, couldn't something like this kill someone instantly if ingested too much?

Some people overdo with pets a bit don't they, could this be an addiction. I don't mean overindulging their pets, I mean having more than you can care for. Like crazy cat ladies whose house are overun with hundreds of the furry things.

Actually, this really is an addiction, and the sad thing is that the people that are addicted really think they are doing the right thing. The crazy cat ladies is a good point. Many of these people will pick up homeless cats and kittens from all over, thinking that they are saving them from being euthanized or abused. The problem is that many of them end up with over 30 cats in one house and cannot take care of them. This has happened several times, and these so called animal lovers have been arrested for animal abuse because they can't afford to take care of all the animals they take. Even worse, they usually start all over again collecting these animals somewhere else. It's quite odd but it is definitely an addiction for some.

Some guys think they are too tough or macho for certain drinks. I've heard so many say "That's a girl drink" or something along those lines. I bet thats what the poster was referring to.

Exactly...Women are more likely to go see a doctor too when they are sick or anxious, but I've also read both males and females abuse prescription drugs at about the same rate. The difference is, for whatever reason, females are twice as likely to develop an addiction to prescription pills as opposed to men. I am not really sure if it is their physical make up as compared to males or what.

Wow, after all of the things that has happened to him and he still cannot manage to stop smoking. As you said, it just goes to show just how powerful an addiction that smoking is. When I hear people say, " Why don't you just quit?", that's almost always an indication that they are the smart ones that have never smoked.

That's interesting. I've never really thought of buying books as being an addiction, and from what you say, maybe he doesn't have an addiction to just buying books, but maybe he just has an addiction to shopping in general. Are there other things he will buy as well that he really don't need or use, but just buys for the sake of buying? Or is it just books?

Ebay addiction seems to just keep growing and growing. I think there are a few factors involved. First, people like the thrill of out bidding others and the feeling of "winning", even if they ended up paying way too much. Others are addicted to buying things dirt cheap there, and even if they don't need it , they will buy and buy and buy because the price is so good.

I know a lady that used to spend most of her entire days just sitting at her pc and watching the bids on Ebay. She would do this constantly, then bid at the last minute before an auction would end. I am all for saving a bit of money, but some of these people take it to the extremes, and need to have Paypal and credit cards shut off before they E-bay away their bill money.

There are many religons that can help the addict with overcoming their addiction. One of the steps of the 12 step program is admitting that there is a recognizing a greater power that can give strength. This is pretty much in all religions. It is not a matter of just being a Christian that can help others recover. Getting closer to God (the creator of the world) can help many people overcome drugs. The important aspect is faith no matter if it is in the name of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or another name.

I 100% agree with you. I would really like to see a "spiritual" recovery section started, that is non denominational. No matter what faith we are, we all still have the ability to overcome an addiction with the help of God, The Higher Power, The Lights, and in some cases Mother Earth or Nature (whatever you believe in).

Adultry has to be one of the most egregious things both men and woman
deal with on a daily basis. Desires of the heart are very hard to just lay aside
especially in emotional people because those feelings are sometimes
quite overwhelming.

I'm not so sure Jesus was speaking only of sexual "lust."

I think people need to read the Bible and get out of it what works for them. Many things should be taken metaphorically and not literally.

Yes, it doesn't mean that they are addicted, but isn't that a sign of addiction or potential addiction? I am talking about people that drink ONLY to get wasted.

Has anyone ever heard of these ? There are pills out there that will literally make you sick to your stomach anytime alcohol goes into your system, and the effects are so unpleasant that it has been known to stop even the strongest of alcoholics. Has anyone ever used these ? I was thinking of looking into to these for a friend of a mine who has been drinking pretty much non stop for the past three months and I really fear what may happen to him. I don't know if he would try the pills, but I would still like to know more about them just in case.

So she did definitely lose them? Ouch, thats horrible. I knew she was in court for it but didn't hear anything else yet.

Yeah, you know you are probably right. You would think that the prices increases would give people more incentice to eat healthier but I guess some people just plain don't care.

How many of us can't make it one day without drinking a Coke, Pepsi, or another carbondated drink? I know that I have been very guilty of this. Even diet sodas are not good for us and still have these addictive principles.

I go nuts if I don't have at least one can of soda a day. It doesn't really even matter what kind as long as it is not diet. I tried to go a day without it and ended up with a terrible headache. I know it is horrible for me and one of these days I will just quit altogether, but I am just not ready to yet.

We are in 2007, and there is still prejudice against those who are overweight, I think it is ridiculous, no one is fat because they want to, but people are ignorant enough not to understand it...

I really do feel for the overweight people who have an eating addiction. Eating disorders are just as serious as having a heroin addiction. They really HAVE to get help in order to beat it. Not too many people can do it alone. But for those that are just lazy and like to eat junk, then there isn't an excuse. Get out there and get right with your health.

It will take a lot more education from parents, friends, family, teachers, states, governments and other organizations to get the word out about just how bad this stuff is for everyone. It will also take stronger penalties and task forces that can stop the distribution of the crap.

I'm probably going to more than likely agree with you, but what "crap" are you talking about that is bad for everyone? You never said ?

It has been around for as long as anyone can remember and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Even responsible drinking doesn't seem to be picking up. Everyday we hear about more and more kids killed or hurt badly in alcohol related accidents. What else can we do to get through to them ?

Yeah unfortunately I have to agree with you, and it is pretty sad. Teens , most anyways, do not know how to handle alcohol properly.

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and not had a great deal of time to read through all of the posts though I will do, but my question is am I addicted to the internet? well I seem to think so and though only recently realised it. I work online and so naturally I am online more hours in the day, when I am not working I am emailing friends, chatting online to my parents as they are in another country, staying in contact with friends etc and basically online all day, so I know everyone is thinking so am I, but what is worrying me is it has got to the point where I will leave the internet to eat my dinner and that is it, so really everyday activities that I would normally do are just no longer happening, I blamed it on the fact that I was in another country now and not my home so naturally I would want to be online more, but its got to the point where my fiance gets totally abandoned and sometimes I dont even acknowledge him, which is now causing arguments between us, if he needs to use the internet for something I get really cheesed off that I have to leave it, when hes on here I sit twiddling my thumbs desperate to get back on it. I have 2 days off in the week and rather than go out for a walk or do something different I get straight onto the internet, my family are saying I am addicted and that I need to just break the routine, but its not so easy. I stay online from the second I wake up, till when I finally go to bed and unfortunately only go to bed when my fiance is moaning at me to get off the internet. I have decided to try and create a 'normal' working schedule to reduce the time on the internet and actually step outside the house even for a little walk.

If the internet takes away from your normal day to day activities in a negative way, yet you do not stop it, then yeah, you are probably addicted. The part about you working online is understanadable, but the part where you are ignoring your fiance for the internet is unhealthy. Try to take at least a few hours each day AWAY from the computer. Just remember the computer will always be there , even if you are not on it.

There are generally underlying issues going on in peoples lives that cause them to become addicted to the internet. This can be lack of interest in knowing how you are in your house, where your friends online might acknowledge you as soon as you sign in. Or other various reasons.

Seems to me that internet addiction can affect just about anyone at anytime. I would like to know however, what the underlying issues may be that make some people more predisposed to it.
