This is a great idea. I've known a few people that have gotten caught up in taking things for free, and couldn't seem to stop themselves. I am sure there are lots out there who would love to talk about it too.
How about Relationship Addiction?

There are many out there that are addicted to the high of finding new romance, and then when that high goes away, they just go on to the next person, and then the next person, etc. Then there are others that stay in abusive relationships or are the abusers in a relationship. Any thoughts?

I think the key is finding a good doctor who is specifically known to be able to help patients with smoking. Also, make an appointment to go in about smoking only. Many doctors can prescribe pills that will help you, and try to councel you as best as they can, but it is still utlimately going to take hard work from the smoker.
Should addicts be treated as criminals?

With the upcoming election, there has been a lot of debates about drug addicts. Hillary Clinton for instance, believes that treatment and rehab should be the way to help addicts overcome their addiction, not sending them to prison. Others think that since they are illegally using drugs, whether they are addicts or not, then they should be shipped to prison. Any thoughts on this ?

Dartz said: I mean, taking up illegal drugs? It has the word ILLEGAL right in front of you, spelled out in a word recognized across the globe in 2000 languages, and among billions of people.

Why bother? Take one look at someone in rehab and you'll see why you should avoid them. What's the point in starting? You must be a fricken idiot if you just wake up one day and say "I feel like snorting crack".

In a perfect world, no one would ever try anything that is addictive and potentially lethal. You can't really pinpoint a certain reason on every person that has taken up illegal drugs. Many are ignorant to the fact that drugs are dangerous. Believe it or not, there a many undeducated people out there who have grown seeing drugs all around them, and feel that it's ok.

Then there are the other reasons that everyone has mentioned, and a million and one more. I think the education is the most important factor in helping people never start.

alexdg1 said: Dartz, one of our forum contributors, asked "Why start using illegal drugs?" in a thread in this Topic of Drugs, and though I haven't figured out a good reply, my mind turned to the flip side of his question, which is, "Why sell illegal drugs?"

The short and easy answer, of course, is "profit."  To the average drug pusher, making thousands of dollars a week sure beats flipping burgers at McDonald's or doing any meaningful job for $5.75 or whatever minimum wage is per hour.  Your average drug "seller" could care less about the moral rot or social problems his chosen "career" cause...all he or she cares about is making money hand over fist selling illegal poisons like cocaine, meth, Ecstasy, quaaludes, or even prescription drugs like Vicodin or Xanax.

Alex, I think you pretty much answered your own question. People are lazy. They don't to work hard for mimimum wage and wait for years to get small raises when they can just go out and make in a week what they would in one day selling drugs. It's all about the money, money, money, and in the meantime these menacing drug sellers are getting children addicted every day.

I'm not looking for something  that will work fast... i want something that will work fully... I love her and i hate that my past and my addiction torwards these urges are ruining it all! someone help me please Thanks...

I'm not too sure I understand. You say you have urges to do more and more. Does this mean you are having urges to have a sexual relationship with your current gf? If so, that is perfectly normal, but doesn't mean you should act on it if either one of you feel uncomfortable with it. Also, what was the stupid thing that you did in the past?  I guess it all boils down to what these urges are that you are talking about.

Stevie, if you cannot stop then you are addicted. I am sure you know as well as I do that you are not setting a good example for your son. Have you thought about getting help/treatment?

Maybe in the future I will be strong enough to consider a family. Right now I am glad that I haven't hurt a dependant.

I really wish more people had this attitude as well. It would save a lot of heartbreaks of children that have to live with the madness of addicted parents.

GreatSuccess said:     What kind of message do these young Hollywood stars send to young women when they get arrested for DUI and make going to rehab look like a trip to the day spa?  Kids are impressionable and they tend to impersonate their favorite stars are doing.  When they see their favorite stars are using drugs and alcohol, and making it look like fun, that's what they want to do too.  Young fans see celebrities drinking and using drugs with little or no consequences, so they believe they can do it too  Unfortunately, the reality of addiction is never as glamorous as the media leads us to believe.

As sad and tragic it may be, they are also seeing celebrities dying young from this lifestyle. I would hope that would open not only their fans eyes, but other celebrities as well.

Hmm, that sure is a lot of money to shell out for something that is relatively new . I definitley have to do more research on it and hear from actual people that have done it before. But if it works, then the cost is still less than what most people spend per year on cigarettes.

Mrs.Ugly said: Antidepressants are the most prescribed drug in the world. They are “happiness pills”. But a study in the UK shows that these drugs actually do not work. They tested about six different antidepressants, including Prozac and Seroxat. They conducted a meta-analysis of all 47 clinical trials and submitted it to FDA. The results showed that the results were effective only in a very small group of the most extremely depressed.
I don’t know I don’t really believe all this. Antidepressants have been used for so long and so many people that are on it do feel a lot happier so why is it just this study says that they don’t work? What do you guys think?

I don't know if I believe that they do not work. I would have to wait to see if more studies can prove it. But I do know there are horrible side effects in many anti depressants.

Ha , I am in the same boat. My entire business life revolves around the internet, so it would be pretty dire if I lost connection even for a day. If I only used the internet for personal use though, I could go weeks, even months. Sometimes I am working online so much that I don't look at a monitor again for the rest of my life.

I haven't used dial up in ages, but if I to I would. I definitely wouldn't like it though. It is hard to go back to dial up once you have high speed.

So how many here actually took part? I had no clue about it until reading this. Even if people quit for just one day, they are still making some sort of progress. But Dartz is right; I've seen many do this just to compensate for it the next day by smoking double.

Edit:
Sorry, I meant to say Quenlin is right. You guys are buddies and I get you two confused ..oops!

Yeah, it's still around but it lost its popularity when Crest Whitestrips took over and worked much better. Then other toothpaste companies followed along and turned out much better as well. I remember when everyone used to use Pearl Drops, even non smokers.

Dartz said: Hardly anything interesting happens in my life, most interesting that that's happened so far this year is that someone tried to shoplift from a store I work at. One thing that humans need is stimulation, if there is no stimulation, they become rather lethargic.

Your thoughts?

People have become spoiled. They want everything right away and they want to get it easily. With a television right in front of you and a remote to change to what you want, it only makes things worse. I think it has to so with getting involved in something outside people's own dull little world, and also something very easy to do that doesn't require work or energy.

They won't do it though. The media knows very well that tragedy and drama brings in more ratings as opposed to covering the good deeds that celebrities do.

Yeah, cold turkey is hard when it comes to alcoholism. I would suggest that your friends look into alternative alcohol support groups that are free around your area. If you don't have good insurance, then rehab may not be an option to many, but you can also look around for free rehab treatment as well.

If you have an alcoholic in your life that keeps promising to quit, but never does, when is the point that you should just give up and wash your hands? I am not saying to quit caring for them, but when should you stop enabling them before you become co-dependent ?

Not illegal if your co-workers are of legal drinking age, and there is a driver there not drinking. I think it is ok if doesn't turn into a habit, and they don't come back to work buzzed or drunk, which could affect their performance. I personally would never do it. I think it's just inviting problems to come along.

I think the problem is that you have to find the right pill for the right person. What works for one person may not work as well for the next person. That could be why there are so many antidepressants out there on the market right now (well one of the reasons at least).

Basically a bunch of B class actors/entertainers get together (such as that kid Screech from Saved by the Bell, and the old host of American Idol) and go to a fitness boot camp, where the instructors put them on a diest and make them exercise daily. They are then weighed each week to see if they have progresses. It is entertaining because there is always so much drama going on, but at the same time, as the other poster said, most the time after they leave they gain their weight right back.
