What do you do when friends invite you to a party? Are you able to be strong enough to say no, or do you just make up some reasoning for not going or do you make a short visit and then leave shortly after making the appearance.

I've honestly never been strong enough to say no to going to a party where I knew drinks were going to be readily available. In fact, those used to be the type of parties I would seek out. I was always envious of the people that could go to a party and not touch any drinks, or even have a few drinks and know when to stop. That was never me.

Well for me it varies really depending on what type of day I am having, its a stressful one then I could smoke 20 - but that is a lot for me, on average about 10 a day.

On average about 10-15 per day, but there were times when I could get by on about 5 or so when trying to cut down.

It's hard to tell whether things you hear about her are fake or real, but yes it was a hugh ordeal also when they came to physically take them away from her. She required a lot of attention but she's pushed everyone out of her life including her kids.

I read somewhere that she is working hard to get her kids back. I wish her luck with that. Celebrity or not, that has to be extremely tough on her.

I'm glad that that thought of Mcdonalds turns my stomach upside down now. When I was a teen I could probably eat it daily and not gain a pound or ever get sick of it.

This is something I have NEVER understood. These celebrities have enough money to have the own personal driver in their own limousine, yet they decide to drive themselves. What the heck is up with that ?

Fricken idiot, FIVE times the legal limit? If she was in a bar, the bartender should've taken her keys and called a taxi.

That is exactly why these idiots do it. When you are drunk, you feel you are invincible and take many more risks that you would never consider in your right frame of mind.

Nowdays there are a lot of people who are addicted to buying online stuff, in sites such as ebay, for example, they usually end up with huge debts on credit cards and everything, that is a problem!

With online shopping, things are just made so much easier for people. With a click of a button, you can shop for anything from cars to clothes to toys to jewelry. This is a big risk for shopoholics and so many of them have fell victim to online shopping addiction. I think Ebay addicts are the worst. Not only are they addicted to shopping, but they also get addicting to the "high" of beating out other people in auctions and winning.
How much time should young children spend online?

Many teachers and schools encourage internet use to their students, and even give a list of recommended websites where they can go and learn, such as noggin.com or yahookids.com . My question is, what would be an acceptable amount of time for young children to spend daily online?

That is gross. I do not see why people want to destroy their body in the pursuit of being skinny. If you are skinny yet so unhealthy you can not even show it off what was your point?

Most addictions ARE gross, Fairytale, but telling that to the addict doesn't do any good. It is up to them get the help that they need, and we can yell at them, tell them how gross it is until we are blue in the face, but until it truly hits them that they need help, they will continue doing it, gross or not.

Did you know that there's a lot of crap on the Internet promoting anorexia and videos to motivate girls to stay unhealthy. I've found sites that are like promoting girls to stay anorexic and bulemic like encouragement. Can you believe this, it's scary what girls are faced with in the media and everywhere they go.

When you see sites like that, report them immediately to Internet Fraud/Abuse. I am not sure the exact name of it, but there is a site out there that protects young girls from things like this.

Why would people anorexia anyways? What's the point? How sick some people can be....

I was watching the news this morning and I guess theres a thing coming on tonight talking about how many mothers these days are becoming anorexic. They had one that was a mother of three and weight 80 pounds. Theyre going to talk about it tonight at 11, and I'm looking forward to see what they have to say.

I know this is a bit late, but did you watch the show. I am extremely curious what this mother of 3 is thinking. I mean it is bad enough to be without children and be anorexic, but damn, now you have three children looking up to you, and God forbid any of those kids are girls with esteem issues.

The more I watch it the more I like it. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Drew. I mean yeah, I am sure he is getting paid bookoos to be on the show, but he seems like he genuinely cares at the same time, and he has more patiences than I would ever be able to muster up for pampered celebrities.
Do you have any sympathy for addicted celebrities ?

After reading megan22's thread about celebrity rehab, I got to thinking about celebrities in general who go through addiction. I feel sympathy for anyone going through the struggle of rehab and getting cleanig, but celebrities are just people too. I don't feel anything more for them just because they are celebrities and I don't think they should be pampered or put on a pedestal just because they happen to be a famous addict.

One of my best friends has a brother that is a total pothead. He's 19 years old and has a job but doesn't go to school and on his days off, all he does is stink up the whole house with weed. His mom will come home unexpected sometimes and flip out and threaten to kick him out. I can't understand the situation completely because I don't live there. But what is a parent suposed to do when they have a son/daughter that's an absolute pothead but is still dependant on you?

Sorry, but if he didn't agree to rehab then I would kick his butt out of the house. He is a grown man, even if he doesn't act like. If he can't respect the house rules or get into treatment, then he should be on his own. Sometimes tough love works the best.

I smoke for 35 or so years. I have been clean and sober for just about 3 years, and off cigarettes and any smoking at all for 2 years. I used my AA program to help me stop, but the gift of despiration was when I had to have a foot of intestine removed due to the use and abuse of drinking and smoking especially.

My AA and Golf buddy Pete, God rest, stopped when he had part of his throat, then larynks, then tongue removed. He finally died from this killer. He was in his early 60's.

My sponsor quit about a year into AA as well - he has over 20 years off tobacco now. Still some leftover damage, as with all of us.

I am lucky, I am alive, and breathing better, and show no signs of additional damage thus far.

It is hard as hell, but you need to kick it - no matter who you are ! Get pissed off at the tobacco companies, pray, use the programs of aa, na , nicotine annonymous etc....whatever positive thing you can do - do it.

Congrats on kicking your addictions, and I'm sorry to hear about your friend .

I am on vicious cycle where I stop and quit, and I am hoping to finall kick the habit once and for all; oh and yes, those tobacco companies are evil.

A lot of my friends used to grow marijuana in their rooms, and in the lofts etc - could always smell it though.

Yeah, there are thousands out there that actually do this and get away with it, but wow, I have never heard of anything that big ! I've never been one to risk something like that.

Another Hollywood celebrity has died due to an overdose of heroin and morphine. He had publicly struggled with drugs and alcohol before, but now it's too late for help. His girlfriend found him dead in his apartment and tried to give him CPR, but it was too late for her to save him. More and more celebrities are having problems with addiction and have even been open about them and people are ignoring the warning signs. They need to go to rehab or a treatment facility to help them before they overdose and die.

Ah, the results of the autopsy are in? I said before that it would not surprise me if it turned out to be drug related, given his past struggles. The saddest thing to me about all these younger celebrities dying is that they are leaving behind small children who will now never know their fathers except through stories and movies.

The government is spending $42,000,000,000/year trying to keep marijuana under control. Are they doing a good job? Like Hell they are. Why would we need to spend such a colossal amount on a drug that's just as bad as tobacco?

God... no wonder everyone hates the current people in power.

Yes, I agree, that's a way steep amount to spend to battle the war on marijuana. I think of a thousand more useful things that that kind of money can be used for to help the US. How about the war on the lack of educational tools that millions of schools need? And that's just a start.

All of this news just baffles me because 5-8 years ago, she was still pretty normal. I think she still had the same amount of paparazzi attention on her. She didn't go out and find ways to get attention or use drugs and stay out all night partying. How can you just start to develop schizophrenia and bipolar disorder all of a sudden? It has to be drugs!

Sometimes mental disorders take a while to surface, and don't usually peak until early adulthood. In some cases people will start to show symptoms in their late teens, but if this is true, obviously Britney's disorder didn't surface back then.

I was reading this article that talked about how for
adolescents addiction to cigarettes is much easier to get than adults. Adults
usually smoke a few cigarettes that get their addiction to grow. But for 30% of
teenagers, their first, one and only cigarette could very well ignite their
addiction. Even for the teenagers who don’t smoke much still develop a strong
addiction. For example a girl who smokes 3-5 cigarettes a week is just as addicted
as a person who smokes 10 a day. She can’t seem to stop because she keeps
getting craving just like the heavy smoker.

When I read this article I totally believed it because I
remember my first time trying a cigarette. I was 13 years old and over my friend’s
house, we lit one up just to see what it tasted like. The first puff was so
soothing that I kept taking more. Then we heard the garage door open and put
out the cigarette quickly and ran up stairs. I kept thinking about how I wanted
another cigarette so bad for the next 3 weeks. I grew out of that stage after
that and even after having my second cigarette I didn’t enjoy it as much and I
didn’t keep craving it.

Hmm, that's interesting, but I wonder why ? Why do teenagers get addicted more easily than adults ? Could it be psychological ?
Smoking outside public establishments

Being a smoker I understand the cravings, but what I cannot stand is when people step outside a restaraunt or a store and light up right there by the door. It's great that they are not smoking inside, but when I walk by with my kid I don't want her breathing in their smoke as we walk outside. I've always made sure I don't smoke anywhere in her vicinity.

I've noticed too in many places it is almost encouraged. Stores and restaraunts set ashtrays right outside the door. Why would they do this? It's just as bad to me as smoking inside.

I've heard of girls drinking mineral oil after they eat too much because thats supposed to act as a natural laxative. Do you think that would be healthy?
Lol when I was gaining some weight I tried doing it but that stuff is so thick and slimy with no taste or smell I wanted to gag! It did work though. But after that one day of taking it I never took it again. I'd rather be chubby lol.

I saw a girl doing this on a movie once and I was thinking who in their right mind would choose this way to lose some weight? Then again, there are harsher ways (purging). I guess some people will go to any lengths to lose weight. An addiction will do that to people.
Has anyone ever purged ?

I personally cannot stand the thought of throwing up involuntarily, so purging has always been the last on my list if I ever wanted to get rid of the fat I just ate. However, there were several girls in my school who almost made it a trend to purge. Has anyone tried this ? Did you get addicted to purging so you could eat more without feeling guilty?
