Re: Do I have an Addiction to Gambling?

Just like some of you guys, I think I have that tendency to be addicted to gambling myself. By "tendency", I mean I can stay for hours at a play area, never mind the time, and go home pennyless. If I'm lucky the previous day, I'd come back for more. If I don't, I say I won't be back but I end up going to the place again.

I guess I understand what you feel. In my case, I check my e-mail everytime I run out of doing something. Sometimes, whenever I'm infront of the computer, which could take hours actually, I absent-mindedly open my mails even without meaning to. I know this doesn't qualify as an addiction, but then again, I do it all the time I beginning to think it is.

I hadn't caught on the myspace wave and I guess I am losing a big part of my Internet life. Actually, I had programmed myself to join myspace and other social networks to gain some friends.

I used to believe that shopping as an addiction is only for the rich and famous. But when you said that you friend practically lives inside the mall buying or just looking around, I guess everyone can be a shopping addict now. I better watch myself out because I have this compulsion to buy something and if I failed to so, I get gloomy for days or whenever I think about it.

Television networks have that certain way of hooking audience to the television screen. Same goes for soap operas. But I agree with the others here. If you merely watch your favorite shows on the television, I don't think that's addiction, even if you do it on a daily basis

Just like you, I think I have a cousin who's addicted, not on drugs but with gambling. In fact, her gambling addiction might have brushed off on me. She won't admit it though and says she's in control. But there were times that she sneaks out and take other people's money and possessions just to gamble. It's not often but it happens.

Just slowly ease yourself from your computer. Everytime your mom calls you to have something done, try to push yourself in doing it even if you don't feel like it. Fight the urge. Anyway after taking out the garbage or changing to house clothes, you can always go back to your computer. Think of it as a reward. Soon you won't be as obsessed with your computer as you are now.

I suppose binge drinking makes everyone thinks they are cool, at least that's what I feel when I first engaged in it. As for underage drinkers, I think binge drinking is their way of showing the everyone else that they are already adults, but the world does not recognize that yet.

I know fatty foods, like those deep fried French fries, crispy hash browns, and grilled meat are not so healthy if eaten on a daily basis. Although I don't really do that, I always eat them whenever I get a chance to. Like when I pass by McDonald's or any other store selling freshly made French fries. I guess I need to start eating healthy.

Drinking, gambling, and smoking do come together. Nothing makes your jittery self settle down better than a stick of cigarette. Drinking, on the other hand, is the best celebration when you win.

I've got a cousin who gambles a lot and I believe she's already an addict. I'd like to help her since her family doesn't seem to understand what she's going through. It's just that I don't know how or where to start. I'm no psychologist so I'm totally clueless.

I don't consider myself as an alcoholic, but then again when I start to drink, and usually it's with friends, I can't tell myself to stop. It's just that if I refuse to drink more, I feel that I'm causing the party to stop. So more often than not, I always end up sleeping over - because they can't move me at all.

Well, you're lucky Cymru because you can eat all the sweets you want. As for me, my dad was recently diagnosed by type 1 diabetes and he's getting over concerned about the health of the whole family. He pratically bans sweets from the household. So we have to sneak out to eat chocolates.
So what really is the best solution for Gambling Addictions?

I know the best answer is to seek professional help, but is there anything else that one can do so that he or she can keep their minds of gambling? The lure of the lights of casinos are so strong moving is the next best thing. But for my cousin, that's not an option. Any suggestions?

I totally agree about that. In fact, there's not one teenager that I know who haven't a character in world of warcraft. If not the online version, a lot is playing single player on their computers. WOW can really be an addiction to teenage boys, although I know a few girls playing the game too.

My encounter with credit cards is practically the same as yours. But instead of buying clothes, I buy gadgets - cell phones, computer systems, and anything new. If only I could undo what I have done.

And then try to occupy yourself with other things such as a hobby or a new sport to fill up your free time. By doing so, you are not allowing yourself to entertain thoughts about your addiction.

And if it can help, don't just start psyching yourself that you will change your old habits. Instead, do something concrete to curb it. It very important that you involve all the people around you in the process.

I guess celebrities get into drugs and binge drinking is because of one of these two things: First, they can't handle their popularity. They think they're famous enough they own the world world.Orsecond, they can't get over the fact that their careers are over and they have to move on.

Well, I won't consider keeping the house clean as an addiction because it produces something good and is not at all destructive. I personally don't have this kind of addiction but I will sure welcome somebody who has it any time of the day.
Vanity

I guess if there's one addiction that is unique to women it would be Vanity. Not that men haven't realized they need to take care of their bodies as well, but if there is some sort of a device to measure it, a woman's addiction to Vanity would still be greater by far. Agree or disagree?

The mere fact that people can anonymously freely tell about their problems and what they are going through in forums such as this already a big relief. The people here that are so willing to help is just an added plus.

This one is very applicable to parents. Curbing addiction before it happens is their responsibility. Taking care of their kids is not simply giving their needs, rather they should be able to guide them towards a better path in life.

I too never pass the day without sitting in front of my computer. On good days, I can spend more than 8 hours straight. On not-so-good days, its 4 or lower. To compensate, I usually look for productive things to do while online. I looking to earning from it actually. I believe this makes my time in front of the computer more worthwile.

I actually read your story twice and it can really be a big inspiration
to all people who are experiencing the same problems out there. Drugs,
on my point of view, is the greatest addiction of all. Because no
matter how your mind says no, your body tells you otherwise as drugs
can alter the body's processes. Keep the faith Catherine. God is always
with you.
