My sister

I'm not in recovery, but my sister is. She has been sober now 6 months. Her clean date is 1/2/08, we think she really started the New Year out right and my family and I couldn't be happier. We have never had a better relationship, but I am aware that people relapse and struggle so in honor of her anniversary of 6mo I found this site and am looking for online support and personal experiences you have gone through. Thanks.

I could never imagine going through what that guy went through out there on the water. To get that drunk where he was so irresponsible that he couldn't afford the ferry fair is pretty bad. The bartender should have cut him off, but I think in countries like that drinking is more accepted and people are allowed to get carried away more.

I used to spend a lot of money on clothes until I got married and started having a family. I was spending way too much on myself and had to budget for things like diapers and baby food. At my peek I was probably spending $400 a month, which now that I look back feel stupid for doing. I should have been saving..oh well.

That is a good question actually. Maybe you are right, they are teaching them in the process of trying to quit how to use the internet without getting carried away. It's like when someone goes to jail and when they are released they don't know how to function in the world, well if you still allow the use of internet while trying to quit you will have better results. I'm not sure though.

I have spent many hours in a casino. My husband used to be there all the time so when we got married he wanted me to tag along. I could monitor it better than he could. He would lose so much of our money. It was definitely hard on our marriage, but luckily we were able to work through it.

Funny I found this thread... I just read something in the paper about how meth is increasing a ton in Florida. "The three highest addictive substances that we're coming in contact with that's known right now is cocaine, meth - side by side - and nicotine," said SWFAS clinician, Phil West. Just another area in the US that is struggling with drug addiction.

I think the weird thing about peeping toms is for the most part they aren't dangerous when it comes to the weapon aspect. I don't think they are out to kill, but get arousal from starring at people changing which is dangerous for the victim.  I think if you believe you have a peeping tom change in your bathroom instead of your room or in your room with the lights out so they can't see in as well.

I'm the queen of watching the same movie over and over again! Why do we do that? I've been so busy these days I don't even have time to watch TV anymore, which I think turned out to be a good thing.

I had no idea she was doing this. I mean we all have problems, especially these days you see all the celebrity addictions. But you are both right, they are only doing this because of the campaign.
Univeristy President gets DUI

The president of the University of Evansville was arrested on Wednesday evening for drunk driving. The weird thing is that campus is a dry campus and as president that isn’t showing a very good example. His blood-alcohol content was 2x the level. "I have obviously made a very serious mistake, and I apologize to the campus community and the community at large," Jennings said in the statement. "I will take every necessary action to ensure that it doesn't happen again." I think that even though he apologized people are going to be judging him from now on because he holds such a powerful position over the campus.

Soldier suicide

I just read a story about a young boy who told his mom he wasn't cut out for fighting the Iraq War. He hadn't killed anyone since he was there and he wanted to keep it that way. Shortly after news reached home that this husband, father and son had taken his own life. He had overdosed. The Pentagon won't give out a clear number on how many people have committed suicide, but they say around 30 and of course many have died in the line of duty.

Former guitarist of The Door's just opened his own chemical dependency clinic, focused on helping artists and performers with their addiction. He said he started drinking at 13 and became sober at 41. He believes that drugs took away some opportunities he would have had as a musician. "It was the '60s, Woodstock. You felt left out if you didn't drink and take drugs. There was a lot of peer pressure, and I tried everything," said Benno. He later started out as a counseling intern and now he opened his own place to try and help others. What a great story he has to share with so many other people. I think this is great.

He's been getting in trouble a lot lately with the law. He should think about going to a rehab facility or something to help himself out. That's not good that his dad encouraged it at such a young age and isn't addiction in your genes?

This was originally launched in 1998, but was taken off the shelves, but now it is coming back out. One water is equivalent to 3 cigarettes. There are two types: one with tobacco and nicotine and the other with 84% less nicotine. This is crazy. I don't agree!!! I wonder if this will make smoking addiction worse??

I don't really see what the big deal is either.. I mean I don't think people are going to go out and try meth because of the name of coffee. They have energy drinks called crank or whatever. I guess it just looks bad and they are being overly protective to protect their citizens..??

I hadn't even thought of this before. I think not only exercise is good, but eating right. I think a lot of times when women get pregnant they get cravings and it's not always the healthiest foods. Even if you can't afford a trainer, just make sure your husband or a grandparent can watch your new baby for a little bit each day to give yourself some personal time to work out or even relax and make sure to catch up on some much needed sleep.

My aunt was anorexic for many years when she was a teenager. She is really tall too and was down to skin and bones. My grandma told me that when she was like that she would have to hand make her clothes because they couldn't find anything that small, but still long in length. It got so bad for her that she lost her period for years and it's not like my grandparents didn't try to help her so I don't blame them. They would try to make her eat, but there was no stopping her. I see pictures of her and it doesn't even look like the same person. She isn't anorexic anymore, but she is very picky on what she does eat. I'm glad she is better because anorexia is a very scary thing.

I agree, this sounds like a great program directed to adults. It seems like kids who go through DARE if they are already using probably lets the information go through one ear and out the other. If the parents get different training and demonstrations who are wanting to hear the information they would be able to spot signs of drug use, smells and behaviors. Are they doing this program everywhere or only in certain locations?

I heard this guy in CA was going to a casino and trying to sell his used lotto tickets. He had a method of looking like they weren't scratched and making his money back. He has a warrant out for his arrest and police are trying to find him. It's crazy what people think to do.

Do You Lie to your Doctor?

I was reading an interesting article about lies we tell our doctors. There were things like how much you actually exercise, if you really are flossing on a regular basis and even about their sex life. But then I came across people lying to their doctors about how much alcohol they really consume. Doctors actually said that they usually double the amount that their patients tell them. It's important to be honest with your doctors because drinking alcohol can increase your chance of breast cancer, liver disease, brain damage and even a stroke. The article says that doctors really watch their patients who they think are lying because denial is part of having an addiction. Also people lie to their doctors about how much they are actually smoking. A doctor claims that some woman try and justify how much they smoke by saying things like "I don't inhale" or "I don't smoke it all the way down." Don't forget that smoking increases your chance of lung cancer, emphysema and even respiratory infections. I wasn't really surprised to find that so many people are lying to their doctors. I don't even like going to the doctor.. :)
