Cause of Addiction

Do you think there's a reason some people stay addicted to drugs? Or is it all a chemical thing and cravings? Cause I feel like some of my friends rely on drugs and alcohol because there's a lot of shit they have to deal with, like they want to quit but everyone has a different story of why they started and why they can't stop, no?

Hey Quenlin I'm sorry to hear that! Right before Valentine's day that's harsh, I think I will be cooking for my girl. I'm not trying to wait 2 hours to go eat at a restaurant!

There was this preview for an episode of the Dr. Phil show. It shows a girl that was extremely anorexic I think she was about 24 years old. But it featured her having a panick attack right before she was going on the show and she was screaming because she didn't want Dr. Phil to think she was fat...I could hardly believe how skinny this girl was!

Here's a few of my favorite quotes, what are yours?

Don't walk

walk beside me and be my friend.

Yeah I think it'd be really difficult to recover from an addiction at an older age. Changing your lifestyle is the hardest part and older people are always so set in their ways.

My friend is starting to become a sponsor for some alcoholics in his AA group. I think this is so awesome! I heard that alcoholics who rely on their sponsors have a 91% remission rate. I'd like to be a sponsor someday and help someone out.

I totally agree with you at4101, at least have the courtesy to break up with someone before you break their heart by backstabbing them. I've been cheated on before and it makes the situation so much worse, even if it's just a kiss it's still wrong.

My parents could totally give away their tv, NOT! They're the type of people that will watch tv all night and then fall asleep with it blasting... it's annoying! But I could definately cut out the part about eating in front of the tv because then you get lazy and you just say plopped there on the couch for hours.

The hip-hop star - real name Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. - has, in recent months, reportedly developed a liking for "syrup", the potentially lethal mix of prescription codeine or promethazine with soda or juice."Everybody wants me to stop all this and all that. It ain't (sic) that easy - feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that s**t.
"You gotta learn how to stop, you gotta go through detox. You gotta do all kinds of stuff..." Pimp C died in his sleep in a Los Angeles hotel on 13 December (07), aged 33.
His death was ruled an accident; the result of a pre-existing condition he had of sleep apnoea, combined with an accidental overdose of prescription codeine.

I don't think you should take this personally, it's between the two of them it seems like.  Sometimes when people enter recovery, they can feel really vulnerable when they're with others that are using.  When I stopped smoking cigarettes, it was hard for me to even be around my family because I felt like I had to be so against it and I always convicting people.  After I was able to be around smokers and not want to smoke, then I could be around friends and family.  But maybe give him some time to adjust.

I learned a very valuable lesson after my first experience at a casino.  It was 1997, and I found myself swept up in the bright lights and alluring sounds at the Hull Casino. With $50 in my pocket and expectations of glorious payouts, I found out the hard way how quickly one can lose his or her hard-earned money with a couple pushes of the button, or pulls of the handle.  In less than 20 minutes, my money was gone. And I was mad. For a brief moment, I contemplated heading over to the ATM to take out some more cash.  Instead, I made the wise choice and walked out the door. During the one-hour drive home, I couldn't stop stewing about the fact I lost $50. It took me two days to let go of the anger over my loss. I felt stupid for wasting $50. And I knew at that moment, I would never be a big gambler. If you can't handle losing, then don't take the risk. To lose perspective, and dig yourself deeper in the addiction of gambling, is to invite a new world of hurt I've only heard about.

I think I eat on average 4 meals per day.  But it works for me.  I'm a pretty big guy and I exercise A LOT.  But my work out partner eats like a horse all day and maintains the same fitness I do.  So yah I think it definately depends on how many calories you take in/out, whatever wrks for you.

Or maybe you could start going to NA with her.  She'll have the right guidance and will be more inclined to go for the right reasons.  And also that way, you'll learn all about the recovery process and ask tons of questions and you'll better understand what she's going through.

I think the legitimate question would be how much do people spend on their cable bills??  We spend 20$ a month for basic cable and it's okaa, but I'm not gonna pay more than that... but I know some people who spend buckets of cash on their tv and then turn around and pay 100$ for their cable and they have every channel available!  Who needs that many channels??

I think it's actually better for parents to be strict and set heavy consequences because then their kids are scared to go out and do drugs.  My mother was always pretty lax about me smoking pot.. she would drug test me every week until I would stop, but then I'd pick it up again.  And I wish my dad cared more, they just figured oh well, he's not doing drugs or drinking and driving sooo, it's not that bad.  But now I actually have a problem with marijuana and gambling, both that I wish I would've solved a long time ago.

Some of the feelings you're experiencing are normal, but it's not healthy to live everyday of your life feeling this way.  I think you just need to worry about yourself for a while and figure out what makes you feel good about yourself.  Build up your confidence and realize that everyone is a person and deserves respect.  Treat people how you'd like to be treated and always remember that you have a place in this world and are a very important person.  Try some soul searching, maybe check out going to church if you're religious.  I'm Christian, and I've always been taught that if we trust our lives in God, he can do anything for us including removing our character flaws and he will never put us through anything that we cannot handle.  I hope this makes you feel better.

It's hard for males especially when the father is absent, also same case for girls when the mother is absent.  But one day the father may come around and realize how much he screwed up in raising his son.  My dad was always there for me, but he was an alcoholic and he feels grief for it everyday.  He comes to visit our family every week but sometimes it's heartbreaking because he knows he's the one that broke up our family and he'll live with this for the rest of his life.  The truth is that kids mimic their same-sex parent and if the parent is messed up, it's best for everyone if they're out of the picture.

It may be a side effect of doing drugs in the past.  When I used to do drugs, I would have extremely vivid dreams.. my girlfriend still struggles with Coke sometimes and when she does it, a few days after she'll talk in her sleep and sometimes swear out loud...

This is how I felt during my freshman year of college, all I could think about was wanted to get sober so I made a commitment too.  But I actually commited myself better to my friends that have been encouraging me the most, and also did a little searching to find the things that interested me before I turned to drugs and alcohol.  Also spending a lot of time with my family helped out a lot also.  It wasn't so much becoming a new person, just getting in touch with myself again.

My cousin used to be very adiment about staying very clean.  His mom, my aunt, is a nurse and she would explain to him the importance of staying clean because of germs... so he took it a little bit overboard too.  But, sometimes kids can take a minor thing to the next level because in their mind, it just seems like the right thing to do..
