I saw another post in the shopping category of what to do if you think you're a shopping addict. One of the strategies was like make a shopping list and only bring enough cash for those items and bring a friend with you, so they can help you stick with your list.
I love designer jeans and the way they feel and everything they're so comfortable. But I've only bought four pairs in like the past four years actually at Macys and other designer stores. Usually I will try Marshalls first and then maybe Ross for cute clothes and then go to the mall and look for sales. It realy saves so much money and it's the same thing. I found a really cute pair last week, they were only 75, which is still a lot but not compared to 200. It's called bargain shopping Lol!
Prescription Drug Statistics

Prescription
drug addiction has increased fivefold since the 1980s and surprisingly, the
ones most at risk for this addiction is the elderly over 60 and up. Furthermore, as of 2000, nearly 17% of the
people over the age of 60 abuse prescription drugs and do so unwittingly. Though, prescription drug addiction is rising
among people aged 12-25. It is reported
that females are more likely to abuse prescription drugs than males in this age
group.

One
reason for this epidemic is that many people believe that prescription drugs
are a safe alternative to illicit drugs.
While most people are addicted to illegal opiates such as Oxycontin and
Vicodin, the number of people who abuse CNS (Central Nervous System)
depressants increased by 50% in just one year.
Also, the illegal sales of prescription drugs have increased enormously within
these past few years. The availability
of these drugs increases the number of addicts, because more people have access
to the drugs.

The only way I could get through to my boyfriend is when I tell him how it hurts me and I feel so stupid when I find out he smoked or took drugs. When i just tell him about my emotions and he can see how I'm feeling depressed or I'm withholding when I say I love you, then he understands. But when I get mad and I curse at him, it makes him want to go with his friends and get high and forget about our fight.
Really the only thing that keeps my boy sober is when we're on good terms and we're having fun being sober together. But if we're on the rocks over something, then it's hard for him to resist using. There's going to be a lot of things that you just don't understand about his addiction, but being his number one support is what's going to get him to realize.
So try showing him how it makes you feel when he takes too much, tell him you want all of him there or just not at all b/c it's annoying being around people when they're like that.
The Role of Depression in Addiction

Anyone that has been addiction or knows someone that is in recovery knows that depression and alcohol and drug addiction go hand and hand. Most addicts are in a poor or deteriorating state of health, but while high, they’re in a euphoric, painless state of mind, numb to the damage drugs and alcohol are doing to their bodies. Aside from the physical effects, depression is an appropriate emotional response, considering the circumstances. Approximately 4 million people with drug problems also have mental illness problems. This “self-medicating” process of addiction only leads to a continuing cycle of addiction for someone with dual diagnosis. When a person is experiencing depression and addiction, the first step in treatment is to figure out which one came first. If the depressive feelings preceded the self-medicated behavior of alcohol and drug abuse, then it’s best to remain abstinent from the substance and then concentrate on the initiation of depression.

Some kids at my school do this. They'll even take them in front of people, out at lunch, cus it's so easy. The admin. really hasn't caught onto it that much. But I think kids are just really curious about it and unafraid if they'll get too messed up at school. Everyone's like Oh, they're just pill poppers, most people think it's stupid but others are really into it. I remember last year a bunch of people would take Triple C, which is a cold medicine but I guess it makes you feel like you're drunk if you take like six of them. But this one sophomore took like 20 at one time and he overdosed at school, he was taken to the hospital and he was okay but Wowow!

Many girls eat when they're feeling depressed or sad. Also it's a social thing too, like when I go out and eat I feel like I have to eat a lot because all of my friends do. And I feel akward when I only have a few bites and I say I'm full and everyone is still eating, I feel like I have to join in.
I don't know if I could ever approach someone accusing them of an eating disorder. I could definitley tell someone if they're addicted to cigarettes or alcohol or something, but that's still a very touchy subject in our society. It's like they're very slowly killing themselves when they over eat, but it's just so different than slowly killing yourself when smoking. Maybe it's just me, I guess it's up to the person to decide.

Everyone is unique, there's a different way to talk to everyone.  I think the best way for me was to just be sraight forward.  I figured out for myself, that it's fun to drink at parties, but there's a consequence to every action and if I kept drinking, my grades would slip, I wouldn't perform as well in life and why would I want to shorten my chances in life?
Emotional Life of the Newly Sober

Early in rehab, the alcoholic/addict may be plagued by a variety of uncomfortable and challenging feelings that can overwhelm their ability to cope.  Post-addiction for me was marked by significant swings in experienced emotions.  Early in my recovery, as my mind was reawakening, I was sober, but I found myself experiencing extreme anxiety with a sense of tremendous fear.  Sometimes I thought about the things in my past, sometimes of my consequences, and my uncertain future.
My best friend, whose gone through her recovery with me, had a re-emergence of painful memories of trauma in her childhood which spilt out in the form of deep and pertaining sadness, hostile and aggressive feelings of anger and shame.
We were both extremely prone to relapse, but in recovery, not all emotions of sobriety are negative.  The first days of sobriety were like pink clouds with feelings of euphoria because we were so happy about our sobriety.  Even after years of chemical numbing, the alcoholic/addict can develop the capacity to feel.

So do you believe it's okay to steal someone's medicine when they have a disease, and go walk around drunk in public with them?  How can you say that he didn't have bad intentions with them, either he was going to take them or he was going to sell them.... You can't just take someone's medicine from them, if she would've died he could've been charged with involuntary manslaughter.  I agree with his sentence, maybe it'll teach him a lesson.

Toxic Faith

A friend of mine recently asked me if I was scared of God.  I'll admit that I have been before, I thought that if I forgot to pray that God would be mad at me, or if I had a selfish thought, I'd later be punished for it.  But after years of praying and a new understanding, I know that God knows that we are sinners and that he loves us unconditionally no matter what.  So, you may be experiencing toxic faith if you ask your self questions like these:

· “God will love me only if I behave.”
· “God hates sinners and is angry with me.”
· “He wants to punish me. He’s written down all my sins.”
· “God is never satisfied with me.”
· “If I sin, God will throw me to Hell forever.”
· “I’m now sick with cancer. God is punishing me for not being good enough.”
· “Our business flopped. God must be punishing me for forgetting Him.”
· “We just met a car accident. You know why? We failed to pray…”

Yah I've met a lot of people that you're describing.  Some of my best friends were like that and they would even get weed from their parents, or their parents would ask them to supply their weed.  It's an unhealthy relationship in the end.  But there is a such thing as helicopter parents, when they're too goody two shoe and shelter their kids from it.  There has to be a balance, but getting drunk with your kids makes no sense at all!

Don't you just love it!  I can't believe how far I've come and I too feel like I don't have to rely on stupid drugs to keep me happy.  I'm more myself than I've ever been before and that makes me happy enough to keep me going.  I consider myself fully recovered, I'll think about having a drink here and there, but it's just not worth it to me.  I know I can most definately handle it, but I don't even want to be that person that drinks once in a while.  I am absolutely straight edge, captain sober all the way!

kia06 said: Pokemon used to be a good show but now I think it is all going downhill. They currently bring out new generations of pokemon in order to exploit children who would want to "keep up" with the series.

What's wrong with starting a new generation?  I think kids should be able to get into things that they enjoy, especially when it's not drugs and alcohol.  I looved all the Pokemon shows, lol the theme song:  Gotta catch 'em allll Pokemon!
