Thanks for all the replies. I have done it cold turkey so far, but I don't know if I can last. If these cravings do not ease up by tomorrow then I am heading to the nearest store or to my doctor for some help. Funny that you mention price, Leighdu. I was thinking to myself how pricey these aids were, but when you think about it, you would pretty much spend that much within only a few weeks of smoking anyways. Fingers crossed! I think I can do it this time !

My cousin always has the hardest time fighting his addictions during the holiday season. This year we didn't even hear a word from him. I think the hustle and bustle that comes with along with the season along with his family problems makes it extremely hard for him. However, I believe in some weird way that him staying away this year made it to where he didn't drink or smoke. At least I hope so, but it's the feeling that I get.

Yes, this happens all the time. Restaurants are notorious for using the big fans to swoosh out all the scents of their food. It has worked on me and my pockets several times . It is definitely a great marketing strategy ! Sorry all, if I got off topic a bit, but point is, yes, subliminal messages are used just about everywhere, especially when someone wants you to buy something.

Today was an extremely stressful day, and when I went in the store and saw a pack of Marlboro Lights staring at me I bought. I feel like I can never quit now, but yet I still don't want to give up hope. How many others have relapsed, how many times, and how did you cope ?

I have read several times that women are twice as likely as men to develop an addiction to prescription pills. I wonder why that is ? Is it maybe that men feel pills are a "girly" high?

What is even worse is the fact there are all these cyber nanny software programs out there and only half of them work. Young kids aren't even safe to go online anymore without seeing some sort of pop up for porn or other adult oriented themes. I think this problem is truly getting out of hand. I don't understand why pop ups and spyware are not illegal yet. It would save parents a lot of hassle and headaches. Kids should be able to get on the internet in a safe and family type enviroment. It just irritates me to no end all the trash that kids are exposed to just so these morons can market and try to put more money in their pockets.

Sorry to hear that . Unfortunately you are not alone. I am still smoking too, and I have relapsed one time before. I told myself next time I stop I won't pick up another, but I am so afraid I won't be able to keep it that I have not quit again yet. Dust yourself off and try again! Good Luck!

Thanks..I actually did not smoke all of them. I threw away the box after a few. Waste of money, yes, but I am determined that I do have to quit somehow.

Gambling boats are really scary, especially to those who are addicted to making that "next big win". I've never personally been but I have heard many stories of people who gambled away everything they had because they just couldn't stop. I personally can think of several other things I would love to spend my on too, but some people really do have serious gambling problems that they cannot control and need help with.

I totally believe this and totally agree. There may not be physiological addictions, but there is certainly psychological addiction, and this is present in just about every kind of addiction out there. Gambling should be taken as serious as any other form of addiction. Gambling can rob an entire family of their life and home. Gambling can turn productive people into monsters that can't seem to break away. It is a very scary and serious addiction.

I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling, but there is a drink called Jaiigermaister that comes in a green bottle and kind of tastes like a minty Nyquil. Every time I have drank this stuff I cannot remember a thing that happened the next day. I think this stuff should be taken off the shelves. I've never touched it again after the last episode of drinking it. Has anyone else had any serious issues with this drink ?

Take one day out and make yourself organize all your clothes, and get them hung up and easily accessible. If after that you are still running out and buying a shirt even when you have several to choose from, then you may possibly have an addiction. I know I have done this a lot too, but it is only when I don't have a shirt to match or pants to match etc., but if I had one accessible I more than likely would not run out to the store and buy another one on a whim.

Do you spend out of your budget? If you enjoy shopping and can easily afford it, then it doesn't seem , at least to me, that that is a problem. But if you have a compulsion to shop when you are feeling depressed then you may be using shopping to deal with underlying feelings. The reason that could be a problem is because you are using shopping as a means to medicate yourself and ignore your feelings.

Ozzy also has a neurological disorder that makes him shake and stutter. It's genetic and he would probably still be how he is even if he did not take any drugs. He told MTV that it has went untreated for a long time and progressed. It's a big rumor that drugs alone is what causes Ozzy to behave how he does, but I mean, yes, the drugs did affect him, but that isn't what gave him the tremors and speech impediment.

I have recently started on HRT and my moods have gone pretty erratic and its affecting my relationship, I know its not an addiction per se, but I was wondering if any one else has had issues?

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what exactly is HRT, and what does it help ? I sometimes have erractic mood swings as well, and I have wondered if I should seek help about it or if they are just normal, because they usually only happen when I don't get enough sleep.

I agree; the only sure way to get rid of the smell is to just quit. I only wish that this was as easily done as said. What I usually do to counteract the smell is to always smoke outside. Then I will take a short walk after each smoke to try and "air myself out". I also wash my hands after every cigarrette, and never ever chain smoke. It helps tremendously compared to people that smoke indoors or in confined areas, but I am sure non smokers can still smell hints of cigarette smoke on me no matter what.

I do not think it is so much the coffee as it is the caffeine people get addicted to. I use to be a Dr. Pepper whore. It was BAD. I would drink probably about 5 20oz DPs a day. I would not drink anything else except my Dr. Pepper. Then I tired that no carb diet. I went cold turkey on the DPs and almost fainted after climbing a flight of stairs. Now, I still have an occasional soda, but I make sure I limit my intake because I never want to be like I was before.

It's definitely the caffeine. I was the same way as you but with Pepsi. After I finally stopped drinking it all the time I also lost over 15 pounds. Yep, caffeine is extremely addictive.

Too funny..you mean you think they have an addiction because they eat a certain kind of meat ? Does that mean people in the US are addicted to steak and chicken ?

I had no idea either these were still around. What a stupid concept, but I guess whatever makes them money they will do.

I started when I was teen, and even though sometimes I wanted to stop, I always thought I couldn't. It was really hard even back then to quit. But I think if had done it then, it would have been a heck of a lot easier than it is now.

My doctor told me about a pill called Wellbutrin. It is an antidepressant but it is also supposed to help you quit smoking, and if you have already quit, it helps you control your moods and the cravings. I am not too big on antidepressants so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this one.

If you are so close to graduation, just make a pact with yourself not to hang out and party with your friends. Keep yourself busy by studying, going to movies, working out, etc; just anything that will keep your mind away from the alcohol. It will be touch but very worth it when you have that degree. I'm sure if your friends are true friends they will completely understand.

Emotionally I think it would be harder for women. Women are emotional creature by natures and they would usually need more emotional support than men. Physically, I think we are all on an even keel. Addicted is addicted, whether it be male or female.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. I won't get into the debate of "It's better for you than alcohol" or anything like that. But I think if it is legalized, the addiction problem with marijuana will more than triple. Yes, I know many people do think that it is not addictive, but I disagree completely. Even if it isn't addictive, it has already been proven to destroy your short attention span and make you unmotivated. Imagine what would happen if this stuff ever gets fully legalized.
