I always gain when I quit drinking......I think it's b/c I would not eat once I started drinking. I think that was part of why I would slip and start drinking again....Being a woman and valuing being thin, I would hate it when I would gain weight after quitting drinking...

But this time, I think I am just going to grin and bear it....Try to stick to mostly protein, vegetables and fruits...But when I crave sweets---I just give in.....I think I am starting to recognize the pattern of extreme dieting/deprivation and then slipping and giving into drinking again....it is definitely a pattern for me.....So, no alcohol!!!!

Maybe for me, after about 6 mths of being sober everything will balance out and I will lose the 5-10 lbs I would love to lose!!!!

I can name a lot of people who use pain killers also.  Some of them are stronger than street drugs, that's why people can become so addicted to them.  They are a lot easier to get also... either on the Internet or from a friend who has a very large prescription for them.

You should really be careful with how you're handling your stress.  I think talking is the best way to deal with stress. Even telling a family member how things are going and what's bothering you in life can help with stress.  Also exercising is a great way of preventing stress from overcoming your life.

Am I the only person who has dreams about things that they stress about?  Sometimes i fall asleep thinking about my day and normal things and then at night I dream about things in the day that could've went wrong.  It's nothing tragic, but they're just frustrating situations that are played out in my dreams.  I can't get over it either, like I stress enough during the day, why can't it just go away while I'm sleeping??

I think I just need to eat less in general lol.  I was thinking today, how come people don't eat dessert anymore?  I know I don't because I'm always so so full that if I ate one bit of dessert I'd blow up.  In European countries, fresh fruit is a common dessert item.  I think the portion sizes that Americans serve are a lot more.  Also the serving plates we use are massive, so it looks like there's only a little bit of food on our plates when really there's a lot.
Smoking to Loose Weight

A main reason why teenagers begin smoking is to loose weight.  Cigarettes can cause a loss of appetite, and after a person picks up the habit, they become fearful of gaining the weight back.  A few of my friends decided to quit smoking, so we all started riding our bikes and swimming everyday to keep the weight off and fix the damage smoking has done.  All health risks go back to normal after only a few years of quitting. =)

That sounds like a drug crime taken from a movie.  I'm glad those dealers got caught though, and hopefully they don't go back to that life.  That is pretty sad how the feds shot their poor dogs, animals are completely innocent when it comes to the crimes of people.

More women than ever before are becoming obsessive with their bodies and weight after getting pregnant.  They become extremely fearful of gaining too much weight and not being able to shed off the pounds. With all of the celebrity moms who appear to shed off their weight within weeks are influencing expectant moms.  Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman recently gave birth to their babies are are already back to their normal selves.  This is sometimes unrealistic for most people because they don't have the resources to hire a personal trainer to help them drop the weight in a healthy way.
Prostitution problem

According to police officers and correction officers, prostitution is at the bottom of criminal offenses.  I was kind of suprised when I heard this, I always thought that prostitution was a pretty serious offense in most states, but apparently not.  Even though it causes a lot of problem and consumes many people as a viscous cycle, prositutes are often arrested and released more than once in a single night.  Prostitution is a misdemeanor punishable by a modest fine and rarely, if ever, by jail time. It’s not uncommon for a woman to be arrested, pay about $35 bond, and return to the streets.  They're not considered hardcore criminals and in the scheme of the court system, prostitutes are at the bottom of the line.  To me, prostitution is a dangerous activity, and contributes to the spread of lethal stds, and also goes along the lines of promoting sex and drug addiction.  Most prostitutes are drug addicts, living on the streets and selling themselves to fuel their habit.  A lot of these women had lives, as school teachers, and high school graduates, but the toll of addiction got to them.  I think to prevent a lot of crime and the waste of many lives, prositution should have harsher punishments and higher fees.. I think that alone would make a big dent in sex and drug addiction nationwide.

I think that's a personal choice, whether they're healthy enough to handle going on the Internet.  It's good though, that people are finally taking this addiction seriously.  Especially with the availability like you said, it's literally everywhere.  The addict just has to want to sustain a normal life, more than they desire to be online.

Many therapists believe virtual worlds can help clients deal with fears or addictions and experiment with new behaviors and means of expression.  Some rehab centers are offering after care treatment via virtual chat rooms with avatars representing the addicts and therapists.  You can talk to the other person, instead of typing, so it seems like you're really there.  The setting is often exactly the same as the rehab facility.  This is such a good idea, a lot of people can feel more free to open up, since they're not right there in front of people.  Also, these virtual worlds can be used for other things besides addictions, even getting over fears like flying, heights, even spiders and shyness.

"If you just whistle every now and then, skip every thousandth step or so; skim the odd stone across the odd pond; go dancing on the occasional blue moon, if only alone in the dark; dress up sometimes, even with nowhere to go... for simply stirring up some little bit of hope, no matter how silly or disconnected your actions seem to be with the rest of the world, magic flashes in the unseen, friends are summoned, connections are timed, stars are aligned, opportunities are crystallized and serendipities are calculated, creating possibilities for new realities that cannot now even be imagined from where you presently stand."
Introvert/Extrovert

There are generally two kinds of personalities called introvert and extrovert.  I am an introvert person,  meaning that rather than not liking people, being with people or external things takes energy out of my system. Introverts gain energy from being alone and going within. If I'm drained and I have to interact with people, it's a killer. It's my time away from people that recharges me. Extroverts gain energy from being with people and things outside of them, and it is a drain for them to spend time alone.
I don't know anyone who became a 'social butterfly' straight after sobering/cleaning up. And alot of people never become 'social butterflies.'  What I did was make a couple of good friends and hung out with them. Sometimes it was after meetings and sometimes it wasn't.
Whether you're introverted or extroverted, neither is better than the other, it just simply defines your persona.  But it can be helpful to know which you're most like because it can help when recovering.  A lot of people are becoming readjusted with themselves after quitting drugs/alcohol.  It's important to redefine yourself and not give yourself too much to handle socially.
Sexy Clothes Will Damage Your Children

Some parents are failing to protect their children from sexually explicit Tv programs and sexualised dressing that may severely damage their childhood.  Children and teens are now in the grip of premature sexualisation that is causing severely damaging effects to a whole new generation of people.  Children need to be protected from sexual messages that they don't understand.  I think many parents are not okay with what their ten or twelve year-olds are wearing, but they're reluctant to say anything.  A lot of adults think that they're only ones with the problem.  However they must empower themselves, children's lives are being cut short prematurely.  It takes a strong parent to say no when everyone else is saying yes.  We must say no more as children don't have the cognitive or psychological understanding to realise the impact of premature sexualised behaviour.

I think it's wise to set limits for yourself and only set that amount of money aside.  Only set aside $100 or so, if you lose it then it's gone.  And when you win, don't gamble that away, set it aside too.  It's important to know when to walk away, but more imoirtantly to know when to stay away altogether.

Lowering the drinking age could start a whole new era of safe drinking practices that everyone can follow.  Illicit and prescription drug use would probably drop substantially because oftentimes 18-20 year olds find it easier to obtain drugs compared to getting alcohol.

I'm sure we've all heard of the energy drink Cocaine.. no one made a big deal about that..!  If a person were curious about drugs, I doubt they would try MethCoffee instead.  If anything, it's making fun of the whole idea and would demote meth use.

Ladies, do any of these ring a bell?  #1, 7, and 11 ring true to me lol
1. I have absolutely no idea where my purse is.
2. I believe that dancing with my arms over head and my butt
wiggling while yelling woo-hoo! is truly the sexiest dance
move around.
3. I've suddenly decide I want to kick someone's ass and
honestly believe I could do it, too.
4. In my last trip to "pee" I realized I now look more like
Tammy Faye Baker than the goddess I was just four hours ago.
5. I drop my 3:00 a.m. submarine on the floor (which I'm
eating even though I'm not the least bit hungry), pick it up
and carry on eating it.
6. I start crying and telling everyone
I see that I love
them sooooo much.
7. There are less than three hours before I'm due to start
work.
8. I've found a deeper/spiritual side to the geek sitting
next to me.
9. The man I'm flirting with used to be my 5th grade teacher.
10. The urge to take off articles of clothing, stand on a
table and sing becomes strangely overwhelming.
11. My eyes just don't seem to want to stay open on their
own so I keep them half closed and think it looks sexy.
12. I've suddenly taken up smoking and become really good at
it.
13. I yell at the bartender, who (I think) cheated me by
giving me just lemonade, but that's just because I can no longer
taste the gin.
14. I think I'm in bed, but my pillow feels strangely like
the kitchen floor.
15. I start every conversation with a booming, "Don't take
this the wrong way but..."
16. I fail to notice that the toilet lid's down when I sit on
it.
17. My hugs begin to resemble wrestling take-down moves.
18. I'm tired so I just sit on the floor (wherever I happen
to be standing)and take a quick nap.
19. I begin leaving the button's open on my button fly pants
to cut down on the time I'm in the washroom away from my drink.
20. I take my shoes off because I believe it's their fault that
I can't walk straight.

I like how you said how drugs just keep us from discovering who we really are.  No one ever starts doing drugs in hopes of getting addicted, but it happeneds over time.  It's easy to make sacrifices for drugs and they just end up controlling you.  That's no life at all.  The pain in life is nothing compared to the pain that hard core drug addiction causes.  Even if you're going through painful times, at least you're feeling something.  It's not natural to just not deal with things, it's a part of life and we need to deal with the good and bad.

I don’t think she should be arrested for feeding her baby wine… She should be arrested for stupidity! This is against the law in almost all jurisdictions of the United States to my understanding. I know Missouri drinking laws are more lenient than Kentucky, but I don’t think by that much. Were the police in plain clothes? That’s like my running a red light in front of the police and then saying, “No one was there.” What was she thinking?! Did she sip some of that wine herself first?!
P.S. Arrest and taking child into custody may have been a bit much…but what other alternatives were there, besides ignoring this action?

Being hypnotized is like being in a trance where you don't know everything going on.  It's like sleep walking.  Basically you're able to escape from reality.  I checked it out on the Internet and there's a lot of programs and recordings that  you can use at home to trance out.

Heroin withdrawals can be extremely painful so you need to be detoxed, it will help out a lot.  Also you need to go to your family and closest friends and get support.  Addiction is a lot harder to get through on your own.

How is it possible that family members aren't reacting fast enough?  If my son or daughter wer taking oxycontin, I think I would be able to tell.  Our generation has more freedom than ever, but kids are taking advantage of it and parents are letting them.  Oxycontin is such a horrible drug and heroin is an even worse one.  Nothing good can come from drug addiction and people need to realize that.
