Controversial? Don't make me laugh, the only reason it's controversial is because people are still homophobes in the 21st century.
Expose? Thats a simply disgusting word, if I was gay and someone used the word exposed in that context, I would lay them out for the crows. It's like saying it's a disgusting disease. Someone once used that term to refer to my atheism, and lets just say that she's not allowed in my life, bar, shop, or house.
It wont cause them mental harm, that's like saying that telling them that tomatoes and cucumbers are actually fruit will scar them for the rest of their lives. I've known that people can be gay/bi/pedo/beastalic/whatever since I was 8, and it didn't cause me harm.
I think that the schools should teach them about it and not the parents, because schools aren't allowed to force biased beliefs on kids. Keep in mind that racism, intolerance and bigotry is usually learned from the parents.

My policy is this, if you come in smelling like a pack of cheap fags, you either take the smell with you when you leave, or go home right now.
I can't stand the smell of tobacco these days, it stinks out my house, yellows my walls and I haven't moved ANY of the picture frames in my house, mainly because the previous owner was a chain smoker that died of lung cancer at 40. Because of that, the white walls are more of a pale yellow, except where he had pictures and pinups.
Good thing I'm painting it tomorrow.
Oh, and when I say fags, I mean cigarettes, it's what we call them in Britain.
