Heroin and Wales

Heroin has recently been taking over the youth. In Wales information shows that the youngest person arrested in the past year for supplying it was only 10 years old. In 2005 453 people under the age of 18 have been referred for treatment for heroin addiction across Wales. It’s like this drug has just become a part of the youth culture.  Years ago this was taboo but now it’s just normal.

In Swansea the Sandpit project has been set up specifically to deal with users between the ages of 11 and 19. While in other parts of the country minors have to go to services designed for adults.  Tia is a member of this project; she has spent over £4,000 on her heroin habit in the past year. She has been reduced to begging on the streets in order to fund her addiction. She first started binge drinking and doing weed at the age of 13 and was then introduced to heroin. She said it was so easy for her to get her hands on it and at first she just started smoking it but recently she has been injecting it.

After reading all this I’ve realized drugs don’t care what age you are. Even if your 6 years old or 66 your still capable of suffering from this addiction. And I think that’s really sad. Before every time I thought about drugs I would think about teens being addicted not little kids. And definitely not senior citizens.

I've never heard of canabis causing phsycosis before. I really dont believe that. I've used it countless times and I have friends who have used it daily for over 12 years and they seem perfectly normal to me. I've heard it makes you fat because of the munchies, and I've heard of people feeling really unintelligent after smoking but never of psychosis or it being the cause of schizophrenia.

I dont smoke myself, but my fiance does and he smokes 3 a day. His excuse is that when he's with his friends he doesn't realise how much he smokes.

Ask your doctor about pills. And talk to him about quitting also. But once you set your mind to it just do it and dont let anything get in the way. Dont let your mind tell you that just one cigg is alright because its not, one leads to too many.

How do you get a person who doesn't really have any intention to quit smoking quit? My fiance smokes almost 3 packs a day and its hard for him to stop because all his friends smoke too. His friends definately are not understanding either, so if he tells them not to smoke around him they still would. But they're great guys and I dont want him to stop being friends with them. But I really want to talk him into quitting, I dont know what to say to him though. All he tells me is that he will quit just not now.

Have someone monitor you too. I dont believe that its possible to quit any addiction without the help of someone else. Try getting involved in another hobby too. Like if your good at drawing, take your favorite picture of you and your spouse or sibling or even parent and attempt drawing a portrait. Or if your good at crochet do that. Rent all the seasons of some old TV series have some friends over and watch them all. Go out of town. Anything that will keep you away from your keyboard.

I wouldn't get that mad over $50 and you got some entertainment out of it right? I enjoy going to casinos but I dont have a problem with gambling. I like going there with my friends every few months and laughing at the other when they lose, and getting all excited when they win. But I never ever spend more than $100 dollars though. Once I gambled with $10 and I won $2000, then spend $60 of the $2000 and won another $1000. I had a good day :).

I like this phrase. Like if you gamble away $10 its nothing you know your not going to feel like you lost very much. But if you gamble away $1000 that'll leave a slight dent in my account and that would bother me.

I think you should tell one of your friends or a family member and ask them to help you out also. Quitting is a very hard ordeal and if your doing it for the second time, you have higher chances of relapsing. I think you should do whatever it takes to quit and dont ever get near the drug again. I had a friend who had a problem with oxycontin, she's sober now but she still gets cravings. She said the thing she always does when she gets a craving is ask her self if she is willing to trade her daughters life for one pill of oxy, ofcourse the answer is always NO WAY so she never does take it and she's been sober 3 years. Get something like that in your head too, I think that would help a lot.
Naltrexone implants

Naltrexone implants are used to stop opiate and alcohol addiction. Oral naltrexone was first used to treat opiate addicts back in the early 1970’s. They worked well but they had to be taken regularly. And not surprisingly many addicts were tempted to stop the tablets so that they could use heroin “just once” and most of them relapsed and couldn’t resume it without another detox. That’s when doctors saw the need for naltrexone implants. That way a patient wouldn’t have to take a tablet daily, or have someone supervise them or get the urge to stop for a day.
They can be inserted under the skin using a local anesthesia. It’s best to do this at the time of an in-patient detox or as soon as possible after any sort of detox. They make relapse almost impossible especially during the first month or two when the risk is highest. They reduce craving also. It works by blocking the effects of narcotics or by decreasing the craving for opiates and alcohol. The risk factors are that it involves a minor surgery with a small scar; it causes dehydration and acute renal failure.
I think this drug seems like a miracle drug. Even with its side affects it does more to help than it does to hinder.

I had a cat for about 3 years, and I was very attached to it. He would sleep with me every night and play with us all the time, and always follow us around. He hated being alone and had to be close to one of us at all times. But he was also kind of dim. He wasn't very smart, he'd always run into the screen door (even though it was adorable) and even after 3 years barely ever used his litterbox to go number 2! So it wasn't much of a surprise that when I was pulling into the garage he ran underneath the car. I rushed him to the vet and he worked on him and throughout his surgery he died. I didn't think I would ever feel this sad about a pet. It was as if I lost a family member.

You dont necesarilly have to hook her up with someone else, just let her see that she has so many other options. He's not the only male in the world and there's plenty other monkeys in the jungle, she could find one whos great for her not someone that is bringing her down.

I remember drinking these in high school and the teachers couldn't tell that there was alcohol in it. We had a blast and they couldn't smell it much either.

I love both dogs and cats. Dogs are so much fun to play with and you can have a blast with them. But I hate it when they lick me, I know a dogs tongue is cleaner than ours but I just get so grossed out. I feel that cats are more comforting animals than dogs. I have a cat and I swear everytime I'm down it's like she can sense it and she just sits next to me, it's like shes always there when I need her. So cats are more comforting but dogs are more energetic and fun to play with.

I think this book is supposed to get kids used to the idea of plastic surgery. It's become such a big part of our lives in so many ways. I can name 7 of my friends at the top of my head who have had this cosmetic surgery, and I bet kids do think it's wierd. One day they see their mom looking one way, but the next shes completely transformed. Its like seeing your mom with black hair when she drops you off at school and she picks u up with blonde hair. Children need to get sed to the idea of plastic surgery and what better way to teach them than with a book?

I dont believe this one.. friends can screw you over big time!

Sometimes they can, but more often than not, friends treat you way better than some relatives ever will.

Which brings to mind THIS quote:

"You can choose your friends, but not the family you're born into."

I agree but when it comes to family when you need them the most even if they are untterly horrible to you they ususally will be there. I have a horrible relationship with my father, we fight everytime we talk and I can honestly say I feel no love for him. But If I got arrested and had no way out he would bail me out, when I know some friends wouldn't want to pay for it.

I definately agree with this. I dont think problems such as that should be helped with pills. I believe that the only time a person should take pills is when their life depends on it. Like if you have heart problems and you need pills to help it going, or stomach problems and you need pills to digest. But not for personal issues where counseling could do all the work and set you free.
