RE: How much did/do you smoke per day?

I am smoking a pack a day, and have been for the past two years. I find that when I am stressed I tend to smoke even more than that. I am planning on trying again to quit soon but I am one of those who go through terrible withdrawal, so I am just getting myself together and prepared.

I used to smoke full flavored, but it got to where my lungs would hurt, so I switched over to lights. It didn't make me smoke any more or any less, but it did help my lungs. It won't help anyone to quit though. It is not that they put less nicotine in light brands. It is just that they add extra holes in the filter so you aren't getting as heavy of smoke inhalation as with full flavored.

I have quite the opposite problem. I cannot seem to NOT fall asleep anymore. I used to have bad insomnia, but now I am at a point where at work I will doze off because I am so tired. I have tried Vivarin before and it perks me up right now, and then with it comes a hard crash and I sleep away. I don't do this too often though because it is like drinking several cups of coffee back to back.
Does anyone believe in prophetic dreams?

I have had many dreams that came true. They were never anything signifigant like someone passing away or winning the lottery, but little things like someone calling a certain time or seeing someone I have not seen in while. Does anyone else have these dreams? Do you think that there is such things as prophetic dreams or are they sheer coincidence?

And since you said that your teeth are the most important physical thing, it makes sense. Hope this helps you some.

I personally would back out now just because I have seen the hell that friends and loved ones go through with an addict. If you feel you can deal with all of that though, and you think this guy is your future, then I guess try to stick it out with him. You can also do this as a friend if possible. I know sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't, depending on how attached you are.

Yes, each standard is different with each person but if someone is rude enough to check their email for their daily forwards in the middle of an important meeting then something is wrong, especially if they feel a strong compulsion to do it daily and at times which is very inappropriate.

I actually think that the internet has changed the world for the better, and more than likely will keep growing and growing.

With anything as big and as good as the internet, there are bound to be bad things that go along with it as well such as scams, internet addiction, meeting the wrong person online etc. However I truly think that the positives outweigh the negatives and internet security is still being researched and getting better and better. There is now also counseling and help for people who have become addicted.
Working online for hours does not mean...

that you are an internet addict. I have seen a few threads in here where people are wondering if they are addicted to the internet because they work plus 9 + hours a day online, and the answer is, no, you are not. There are many people that work longer than that each day and most do not even second guess it. They see it as them making a living. People have put such a negative spin about people being online too that it makes people feel guilty if they are online too much. That is a crock of BS. If you working and have a job to do and it happens to be online then noone should feel bad about that. The people that always complain about it are the ones who have no idea how powerful the internet can be when it comes to making money and learning.

What about people whose jobs require them to be on the computer for like 8 hours a day, is that bad too do you think? How many hours a day do you guys spend on the comp.?

What researchers recommend this and are they talking about 2 hours of personal leisure online or what?  If they are talking about personal leisure, then maybe, but I would love to know where their figures come from. As far as working online, then that just makes no sense to me. What if someone told these researchers that only 2 hours of research per day is all that is healthy for them ?

I had a friend back when Napster was in its prime that downloaded over 5,000 songs. It got to where he was downloading songs every day. Then when the lawsuits started, he stopped downloading. So I would not say his behavior was addictive, since he did quit without too many problems, but I think it could have become that had there been no lawsuits to scare him.

How long have you went without the internet since you have started using it ? I have went a few weeks before and it didn't bother me as much then because I did not work online at the time. I've known a few folks that have almost lost their mind when they were stripped from their internet connection for just a day or two. How long could you go without missing it (not just work wise either) ?

And like Hell I let you drive unless you can say "Private Pirate Property" 5 times in succession. Hard enough to do it sober.

I am completely sober and couldn't say that PPP quote quite just right, but it was fun trying :-). It's almost like saying " Toy Boat" ten times as fast as you can. It is harder than you think !

Might be an ignorant question but what it rhinoplasty? I agree with the other poster though. Getting plastic surgery before your are fully grown is not a wise choise.

Excellent idea ! My older sister is a relationship addict. She goes through boyfriends like she is changing clothes. Every day she has a new one. The slightest thing will set her off, and she is off to find a new one. It is getting incredibly disturbing for the family because these guys are getting hurt and calling us for help. She doesn't seem to care. So yeah, I would to have a board that discusses this type of behavior.

This is a bit off topic of internet "addiction", but I was just curious if anyone is still stuck with dial up. If so is it by choice? I don't think I could ever go back.

Are you taking the required amount, or do you take more than you should? Are you running out early, and then desperately wanting more ? Do you feel like you cannot go on without them?

I'm not really an expert on the topic or anything, but I do believe that those are a few warning signs. I was actually lurking around here myself trying to find out the effects of long term pain killer prescription drug use.

I was really disappointed in the season finale. All these people had the opportunity to go to the Staying Sober rehab after the show, free of charge, but only two of them went. I don't think their three weeks at rehab will help much.

I tried this back when I was a stupid kid and we were too young to buy beer. It's a cheap way to get a cheap high, and totally not worth it as you can do some serious brain damage if you are not careful.

Yes they can. Have you heard the recent news about that World of War game? It caused a divorce. PC games can cause an ugly addiction, and probably pretty awful for your eyes as well.

bryce08 said: It isn't breaking news that Americans love the glitz and glamour of celebs on tv. But it seems like people are starting to care less about stuff that's going on in real life. Instead of turning on watching USA Today, we're watching EntertainmentTonight. I don't know when a celebrity going to rehab turned into news, but people love to hear about it. Lindsay Lohan going to rehab and getting a new boyfriend or Britney Spears missing a few drug tests isn't news but I guess to some it's a lot more interesting than the war in Iraq or upcoming presidential elections....?

The worst part is that even news stations are starting to report on this kind of smut more and more. Our local nightly news station headlined American Idol as their breaking news story. I was so disgusted I turned off the television. I couldn't care any less that a contestant from my city made the top 24.

Vicodin is a very easy drug to get hooked on. I have many friends and acquaintances that have used this, as well got a addicted to. For one, many doctors will prescribe this for moderate to severe pain, so access is fairly easy. Its one to watch out for.

Its sad when many impressionable adolescents look up to the Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohans and see them shown in ways that seem like partying is fun. Just about anyone here knows the ramifications of excess, and although the press may show it in a negative light, its not outright condoned. Its really a sad state of affairs.

I think that may be true, since as a depressant, the ability to grasp humor is gone once you reach a certain point on inebriation. However I think to overindulgence of any chemical takes the that ability away as well.

17 percent of sixth graders use, even with that sample, is way too high. It makes me wonder what is going on in their household. It wasn't too long ago that sixth grade happened for me, and I never saw in any of my classmates, the urge to drink, even for fun's sake. Very sad.
