Tower I think once you start seeing results, then you'll be a lot more motivated to go.  Stay open-minded and let the meetings impact you.  Sometimes I don't feel like going, but once it's over, I'm always so glad that I went.  Good luck everyone, I'm new here, it's nice to meet you ppl!

Did you find any stats with meth?  It seems like there were a ton of people addicted to meth at one point.

Does anyone here sleep with their cell phone?  I heard a woman talking on the radio about 'connection addiction,' saying that more than half of "digiteens" sleep with their cell phone under their pillow, on vibrate, and text through the night.  I always thought that was normal.

I saw that photo, she looks really good.  I wouldn't think she has an eating disorder now bc she looks fit, not really skinny like if she had an ED.  I can imagine contemplating an ED if I was a dancer, my old best friend was in ballet and all of the extremely slim girls were favored by the teachers.  That's the body type for ballet, thin legs and a flat chest.  I'm not sure if Ashlee Simpson was in ballet, but basically for any type of dancing, you should be slim, that's just the body type.
Have you ever seen that movie Center Stage?  It's about ballet dancers at Juliard and one of the girls has an eating disorder.  She makes herself purge and her boyfriend finds out and makes her stop.  And this other girl gets kicked out because she is too heavy and everyone talked about her like she was a cow!  There's a lot of pressure as a dancer, especially if you're planning to stick with it as a career.

I think your closet and kitchen should be the most organized, also your bathroom.  Because your bathroom is where you start off your day, it's the first thing you see, and your kitchen should definately be clean and organized cuz that'd be gross.  And your closet, that's where your wardrobe is.  There's thousands of dollars worth of clothes in there, and should be kept neat and organized, that way they'll last longer.  I get a lot more stressed and irritated when my room is messy.  My parents nag at me and I feel like if I don't have time to clean my room, then I shouldn't even go home because I can't stand being around clutter.

I can think of a lot worse shows and movies than Sex and the City.  I think most people realize how dramatic that show really is and they should know better not to take everything so seriously.  It bugs me when people blame behavior on tv.  Even a 13 year old girl should know better.

I heard that story isn't exactly true though.  There was a big deal about how a lot of the events were made up.  But still, you're right, any way you look at it, trading sex for drugs is horrible.  And eleven guys,  I hope that didn't actually happen.  How could her boyfriend allow that to happen?!

That's really true; a parent can only be as happy as their unhappiest child.  My older brother is going through a really tough time in his life.  I finally told her that he finally decided to give up smoking weed.  I've been trying to convicne him for two years to give it up.  The sad part is that he's wasted 2 years of his scholarship and probably has to forfeit the whole thing because he couldn't make the grades.  I'm not sure why he decided to give up everything.  I think he may have been so overwhelmed and just wanted to rely on pot even though he has a wonderful girlfriend and supportive family.

If you live in California, it will soon be illegal to smoke in your apartment.  The measure would allow landlords to prohibit smoking in apartments they own to prevent nonsmoking tenants from secondhand smoke.  Apparently a vast majority of tenants, including nonsmokers are opposed to the new law.  They're saying it's unnecessary meddling, and said it's against the wishes of the public.

I kept a journal of my recovery since the first day.  I can look back now and realize the person I was and all of the mixed up, horrible emotions I had to finally deal with.  I went through withdrawals and that was definately the hardest part for me.  I felt like screaming at the top of my lungs but instead I wrote in my journal, lots of angry stuff, lots of epiphanies happend and I wrote them all down.  I look through it a lot just to remind myself why I quit and the person that I no longer am.

I read for about an hour a day, at least I try to.  I like reading all different kinds of books, I can't stick to one genre.  And ya you're right, reading improved our thinking and memory :P

This would be good for people who are already quitting but need something extra, you're right.  But it probably can't be the only thing to rely on when quitting.  Alcohol is one of the hardest things to quit for sure.

That's so horrible, I would've never thought he'd be a drug addict.  This story is all over the news, everyone knows about it.  I'm glad his wife had the guts to leave him.. there's no reason to stay with an addict who has no intentions of getting well.

I don't see why he didn't stop after he gambled away $50,000.... I can't imagine gambling that much money!  It just seems like it took him a little long to realize that his gambling was out of control.  But seeing both circumstances, he may have a good case.  You never know these days...

Maybe they shouldn't have called you an addict, but there are some people that are enablers.  They make it possible for an addict to carry on their lifestyle, or are sometimes addicted to that person's dependency on them.  But you seems like a very nice person, maybe you need to show some tough love.  Addicts are the type of people that will use all of their resources around them, any possible way to get money to afford their drugs.  I have an older brother and I only give him money, maybe once a month.  And it's $5 or $10 if he's short on cash, and then he pays me back.  But I can't imagine why he would need more than that, he's an adult and has a job, so there's really no reason why I should give him money.  But there's other ways of showing love, besides giving money.  It's good that you're being supportive by attending meeting with him, that shows a lot.

I was reading this support group for people with eating disorders and I was suprised to find males on the cite.  It doesn't really fit the stereotype of most guys, it seems like all guys want to be buff.  But there all different forms of eating disorders, not only anorexia and bulimia.  And not all people with eating disorders are extremely thin.  I also saw a true life episode featuring a guy and he seemed very bothered by his body, even though he was really skinny.

This is kind of like addictive personalities, whether people are more prone to become dependant on something, it doesn't always have to be drugs.  Thrill-seekers are probably more likely to try drugs, that makes sense.  My brother is sort of like that, he's always ahead of trends, always trying the newest thing.

If it were me, I probably would've called her out, but I'm such an outspoken person... it might not work for everyone.  Since you don't know her directly, maybe you should talk to your cousin first, so that he can mention something to her.  Having one beer always leads to another beer and so on...  And you have no idea how many occasions she drinks.  I'd definitely say something, she has no idea what even a sip of alcohol can do to her baby.

Horses not only are fun to ride, but can help teach relationship skills as well as aiding people with physical or mental disabilities.  Horses can mirror the feelings people try to hide.  They teach relationship skills.  But therapeutic work with horses does not necessarily involve riding, it can happen during grooming, or with the horse on a long rein.  Equitherapy can improve posture and well-being.  You see people opening up and smiling more.  Horses are very sensitive; they pick up on emotions, without being judgemental and this allows people to express themselves.  People's lives can be transformed by interaction with a horse.  They see how to communicate with others, and what they need to change in themselves.  They learn how to say no, and set limits, but in a natural way, without a power struggle.  There is intuitive communication between horses and humans, the horse brings people into the here and now.  Equitherapy has been used to treat eating disorders, and even help rehabilitate prisoners.  It's no accident that so many of the greatest leaders were skillful riders.  Horses invigorate your spirit and help you get in touch with the real beauty and power of life.

That's really true, if you've ever been in someone's apartment that smokes, you can tell right when you walk in the door.  I heard they didn't make it completely illegal yet, but It'd be a good thing if they did.

People who currently smoke everyday should think of themselves a decade older than their actual age.  Smoking really does put that much strain on your body.  Chances of developing breast cancer and heart disease double... but if you quit smoking for five years, your likelihood of developing these diseases goes back to normal.

Don't they have medicine for BPD..?  Why would someone need to self medicate when they're already getting treated?  Drugs are most likely going to make the disorder worse, so that you have withdrawals mixed with heavy moodswings..
How to Keep Your Teen Away from Drugs

A recent study found that more than half of teens will try illicit drugs at least once and almost all will try alcohol and tobacco.  So knowing this, parents are lookin for a refresher to keep their kids off drugs.  The sooner you talk about it, the better.  When they hear about the dangers of drug use, they start to understand.  By the age of ten, parents need to have a serious sit-down conversation with their kids about drug use, abuse, and the dangers therein.  Also, getting your teen involved in activities like martial arts will help deter drug use.  The warning signs are still the same: blood shot eyes, drop in grades at school, aggressive or laid back behavior, and a laid-back view on drug use.

I think every high school has a local parents house to party at.  If not, it's whose parents are out of town for the weekend.  Kids are going to drink if they have it in their mind, but you're right, parents really don't need to be fueling the problem.  Parents have am obligation to keep their kids and other kids safe no matter what.  It's not worth it to be the "cool mom" that buys beer for all of her kid's friends.

A doctor working near the Gaza Strip has developed a new detoxification program, that has cured more than 11,000 former opiate addicts.  It's said to be one of the world's most radical drug clinic, but regarding drug addiction, radical techniques may actually be the best.  Dr. Andre Waismann hopes that one day, any opiate addict can come in and get cured of their drug addiction, and go home healthy that very evening.
Basically, what his treatment consists of is, the patient is sedated while their body is detoxified.  Usually this process is extremely painful and they experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, even extreme muscle aches.  All of these symptoms are bypassed and the patient awakes with no cravings, having gone through detoxification.  For the next ten months to a year, they take regular pills to counteract the effects of any heroin or opiate they may take, and according to Waismann, become fully functioning members of society again.
