I do a lot of buying through the internet be it on ebay, virtual shopping malls or amazon. While shopping online isn't so much fun as moving around in the shops ,I don't exceed my budget online.I have seen that when I purchase through the net ,I search for the specific items I need and buy only those whereas when I am visiting the shops and malls ,there is so much that catches my attention that everytime I end up spending more than I plan.Does virtual shopping help to cut down on the unnecessary expenses we make when we visit the shops ?

I understand your point, but personally I hate trawling through the shops, and find it much easier to shop online, and to end up buying more than I would have otherwise, because I'm not tired of looking around and irritated by the crowds.

For me, the buzz is so much bigger when a parcel arrives on my doorstep than when I bring it home with me. For that reason, internet buying is a bigger problem. I don't drive, but online that doesn't matter; I can reach as many stores as will deliver.

Then there is the waiting for my things to get here-I get so built up each day checking the mail, I love it. I need to stay away from the pc.

Yeah, for me Its ok buying stuff in the internet because I can save from gas and from my time searching and searching and ends up to nothing. Also in the end what I bought was not really what I decided to have, so its a good thing to look it up in the internet.

I think the internet does a little bit of both. It allows a person to shop more frequently and more often but with less selections that one usually finds in a foodstore itself the temptation is minimized.

When ever I shop online I end up paying much more than I would have if I bought it from the store. Because after I find things and then hold them while I'm looking for more I think more about whether I want it or not. And then when i'm holding the bags and go into another store it makes me realise how much I'm buying. But when I get them offline I just buy and buy and buy and i dont realise how much i'm buying.

The internet does not help a shopping addiction. It makes it even easier to go over board on your purchasing. I do have a tendency to purchase less online than I would at the store because a lot of times I buy because I see and need. It is harder for me to get a wanted visual when the item is online.

Harm, without a doubt. It's far too easy to find what you want online, and if you have a shopping addiction, you will end up going over the limit for your credit cards. Which will really make life Hell if you can't afford the payments.

I quite like shopping online, beats going to the store and I don't have idiots breathing my air. I doubt it can help a person with a shopping addiction, since they have everything right there. Agreeing with Dartz, they can easily overspend.

For normal shoppers with no addictive tendencies, I don't think the Internet is a harmful tool for shopping.  If used in moderation, it can actually be a convenient and sometimes cheaper alternative to going to a mall and shopping there.

For addicts, though...I think online shopping is the equivalent of putting an alcoholic in a liquor store and giving him/her free reign.  So in that case, it's a harmful thing because it's very easy to buy stuff (just point and click with a mouse, and bam, you're done!).

For some reason, it is soo much easier to get my mom to buy me things online than it is to drag her to the mall because she absolutely hates the crowds.  She'd rather take a chance of it not fitting than to go to the mall.  I don't understand it, but I figured this out after reading this lol.  Once in a while she'll overspend, but ususally she'll just throw the catalogues out or not even go online at all.

I used to enjoy shopping online a lot, however I've come to notice that things that I buy offline, that look SO nice on the computer screen end up looking completely unflattering and ugly on me. So I stopped that and all I buy now is electronic stuff online. Or books
