Celebrate a Life...Not Grieve a Death

When my grandfather past several years ago it was pretty devastating for the whole family. He was such a good man and always helped us whenever we needed help. He was like that with everyone. At his funeral the pastor said something that helped me every day from then on..."We are not here to grieve a death...We are here to celebrate a life." Everyday after that I would just think about all the good things about him during my life. He was the one that taught me how to ride a bike and I still remember that day and always will. It was one of many days that I'll never forget.

The pastor is certainly right. My ex boyfriend died in Iraq over a year ago and I'm struggling with it still to this day. We have so many memories together and I miss him, but luckily, I have those memories. I love to think back to all the things we did together and all the feelings we shared. I really need to learn to celebrate his life and not grieve. Death is the only certainty in life, we all go at different ages and ways, and I’m so happy that I can see him again one day. He is truly my hero.
