Teenagers grounded in detox

I did a little research on how well detox works for teenagers and apparently, it works really well. For teens that are out of control and it is obvious to the parents that they are addicted to drugs or alcohol, the parents can get a court and have a judge order the kids into special, locked-up detox center for five days.

Yeah, it could seem a little extreme at first and I doubt many parents would negotiate this, but it actually works. It’s the same idea as sending your kids to their room and not being able to come out until they’re ready to act civilized. With the five day stay, teens are able to rid their body of the poison of substances and think about what they’ve done and the choices they’ve made.

The hope is that cutting teens off of their drug of choice and taking five days to flush out the substance, they’ll realize they need help and voluntarily check into a longer rehab program.

I think one thing that will be stopping the promotion of this helpful solution in our close community is the reputation that your child was sent to that facility and with a court order.

I agree with surfville. I live in a small comunity and the last thing I want is people calling my sons pot heads. This sounds like it may work though, but even if it werent for my sons reputation, i cant help but wonder would they ever think of me the same? As their loving mother? Or would they start thinking of me as the heartless lady who sent them to basically a jail for 5 days. I dont know I dont think I'd be able to do that.

That seems kind of like sending them to juvinile hall for 5 days.. I'm not sure I'd want to do that to my kids.

I would definately do this to my kids. If it was to get them clean then tough love it is. Getting through an addiction is going to be hard either way, if this is one of the recommended ways to do it then I definately would send them there.
