Can you talk to your parents?

Can you talk to your parents?

I always found that I could talk to my father even when messing with drugs or alcohol and though he would be angry at first naturally, he would want to find a solution and to help me through it, I think I was pretty lucky that I had that. Some parents are unapproachable or you fear to talk to them. Can you talk to your parents about this kind of thing? I hope that when I have children then will be able to talk to me but I know this may not be the case.

Not for me unfortunately I had a few problems with my mother as a child and so didnt confide in her much at all, my dad too was a little different and in time I could talk to him about things but it took a lot for me to do it and luckily it wasnt too late.

You might flip out if your kids tell you that they're addicted to drugs, but one thing you should remember, it takes a lot of guts to admit to your parents that you're on drugs. If they tell you, for the love of God don't flip out on them, help them overcome it.

If you flip out because they decided to be honest, then you're not setting a very good example are you?

I cant talk to my parents about ANYTHING! They flip out over the smallest things I cant imagine ever telling them about my former drug addiction. To them I'm still the little boy who hasn't grown up. Although I'm 23 right now. Even as a kid I couldn't even talk to them about my girlfriends, they made it so impossible tot alk to them about anything except priorities in life and day to day things.

But that's so wrong, I don't agree with that at all.  If a person is addicted to drugs/alcohol, i'm sure they wouldn't yell at a friend or family member.  And concerning your kid, it shouldn't be any different.

Some parents just arent understanding at all. Their child being on drugs to them is like their child being a murderer and theres no excuse.
