Many closed minded people think that recovery is almost
impossible. But there are so many people out there who have recovered and
stayed sober. Recovery is great and there are even some celebrities who have
recovered. Nicole Richie has had the most spontaneous recovery. She has been in
and out of rehab so many times yet never sobered up.

It took her true love, and a pregnancy to get her life on
track. Now Nicole is expecting to give birth in January, she is engaged to good
charlotte singer Joel Madden and life seems great. recovery lets a person live
a much happier and better life!

These same closed minded people, end up suffering as well. When it hits them they will finally understand what others are going through and will become more open minded than you might ever have expected.

Yes, it's really judgemental for someone to say that, it's like giving no hope to people who are desperately trying to really recover... I think many people believe that you will always be an alcoholic but the question is if you're recovered or not. I agree with this.

if they are close minded they'll have a hard time on recovering, as the first step is certainly to accept that you have a problem and that you need help, it's the hardest part in my opinion, that thing should be worked :)

Good to see she's fine, anyway, being close minded is a big problem into recovering, as people just do not feel like recovering, they are too skeptical about that, that is bad!

Recovery can come in many forms. Some people need to take small steps and others can take leaps. What's amazing to see is the most ardent addict recover in a spontaneous fashion. This has to give addicts hope who see others recover this way!

I think you are right there are many people out there with bad attitudes toward those in recovery, maybe it is because they are able to stand up admit that they too have some sort of an addiction that they cannot face, it does not have to be drug or alcohol related to be an addiction. Maybe they just do not fully understand at what point each person needs to be at in order to really recover.

I think many people think this way because of the low percentage rate. However, it is certainly NOT impossible. There are success stories every single day, whether it be a celebrity or not. People should focus more on the chances of recovering instead of the chances of NOT recovering.

If you've ever been to an AA or NA meeting, its clear that recovery is totally possible and less scary than you might think. It's just that people get themselves so wrapped up in a certain lifestyle and it's hard to pull themselves out of it. I used to be this way, I was so emersed in cocaine and pornography, its like I didn't feel good about myself and I wasn't good at anything else. But recovery is all about finding your new self and understanding that life isn't something to take advantage of.

There are many stories of recovery just on these forrums than celebrities on the news. Maybe these closed minded people just need to do a little bit of research and realise how terribly wrong they are. Addiction can be beaten, its a tough fight but can be won and is the best battle to win.
