Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I'm free at last. This is a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. He speaks about freedom from the differences of race and religion. This also applys to freedom from addiction. I have been free from addiction for 6 months now. It's a great feeling and a great relief. I'm not saying it's easy. It's a struggle every day. I want to take a drink every day. But I don't. And that is freedom. The freedom to have control of my life.

Wonderful that you have overcome your addiction!. I hope that 6 months from now I can boast of having overcome my need to buy so much stuff . I buy so much stuff that I don't need at all. You are surely an inspiration for me.

If you can overcome an addiction to alcohol; sure, I can overcome my need to buy stuff.

I know your feeling Caliguy. I am not free from Alcohol but am free from my addiction now for 6 months. It is truly a liverating feeling knowing that our addiction doesn't control us but that we control the addiction.

How fantastic a feeling to be free from the death grip of addiction.
Every though it shadows me everywhere, and maybe always will, I take comfort that I have experienced a calm that I never thought possible from the despair I had once reached.
Cheers to the good life...

Sobriety is a wonderful thing! It is moar wonderous way of life. I have just celebrated 10 years of being clean clean and sober and it is only through the grace of God. And it truly works as long as you work it and want it to the depths of your soul. I know that I do. Addiction is a disease that will eat at you for the rest of your life, you are in my prayers as all my sisters and brothers in recovery are. It is a great feeling to be able to think and act with a clear head. It is amazing how the choices and decisions you start to make will only make your life better.

Keep up the good work and remember "One Day at a Time".

God Bless

I've been sober for over 9 years. I wouldn't be alive without it. My life is better that I thought it could be. AA has taught me about spirituallity. I don't run anything, God does that for me. Let go, Let God.

Hi, caliguy, congratulations on so long a stretch with your success. I hope, someday, my husband will boast as you do. Would you say it was going to AA that helped you to overcome you addiction to drink? What was the most powerful weapon you used in your battle against alcohol?

Thank you for all the great support. I am glad to say that I am still alcohol free and just passed my 7 month anniversary. It is still temping sometimes, but the excitment I get from beling sober is even better. I think that the best thing that I do to keep sober is stay busy. I do as much as I can all the time. I don't want to have time where I am sitting home alone and bored. That is when the temptations come back to haunt me. I have picked up golf. I suck big time, but it is nice to be outside with my friends and have a good time. I have found a new respect for the outdoors and nature. There is so much world out there, and I don't want to see it through the eyes of a drunk. These forums have been a great inspiration to me too. I haven't logged in for a while, but was I SOO surprised to see the response from my blog. The encouraging words and other success stories were great. These are the kind of things that give me hope and encouragement to keep on keeping on. I hope everyone is safe and sober out there. Thank you for all the great support. Has anyone checked out the profiles section? It's pretty cool. Not too many people, but hopefully soon. Try and guess which one I am. FORE!!!

Quiting is something is only a portion of the work and most people think that is the hardest part. Unfortunately you need to make sure that your support team is always available when you need them as this next little while after quitting is the hardest part. Good luck and congrats on your change in life.
