I am here for my son, and we are in the beginning stages. My husband and I just found out that our son has been taking marijuana ..that is smoking it! He has for sometime seemed to walk a bit off balance at times and I thought he was suffering an inner ear problem but this was not the problem. He had been coming home from somewhere high on his smoking.

We found his stash in a sock in the dresser. He said he didnt know where it came from but I knew for some time something was not right but wished to respect his space. Now we are trying to arrange for some rehab and detox therapy.

Kitty, your son is lucky to have so caring a mother. Remember that you cannot take all his problems as your own. I know with my problem..I was hurting my family because I used up our money. Let your son know in a nice uncondemning way how much you are hurting for him and how much you want him to get well.

You are here for your son and I for my husband. Do you think we can convince our hubby and child to com e here . I think my husband would simply laugh at me if I told him to come here to the site.

I am a gratefully recovering drug addict and have almost a year clean from my drugs of choice (crank, coke, X, pot, etc.) Your husband and your son are not going to want to recover unless they want it. They may have to hit rock bottom before they decide that they want to recover. From my own personal experience, I knew I was hurting my parents but the thought of using drugs consumed my every thought. It consumed everything I did. This disease of addiction is powerful and at the center of it is self centeredness...Addicts are self centered, your son doesn't care if you found his pot and your husband will not care if he is hurting is family...Sad, yes, but it is the nature of our disease. Love and support are the two things that you need to provide your family members. Help them to get into a program like Narcotics Anonymous because it has done wonders for me. The NA program time and time again has saved my life. You will never be able to get someone to stop using until they have the desire...I hope that your son and husband will find their way into a program, find God, and be happy with life, like I am...

this is probably tuff for you to here but the more you push them the more they will rebel. when recovery is forced it is always opposed. Your best bet is to show you care and do more family activities were he can't get high. cause people only get high when they have the chance. you fill there day up with activities it will slow down the process. show your love and support also your concearns then that will help. I am not saying that treatment is a bad thing. but be careful

Taking care of your loved ones is far more important than most other things. Admitting that there is a problem and helping them to overcome that problem is what each and every parent should be willing to do. it is great that he has parents who care enough to notice changes and take actions instead of ignoring them.

It's good to know that you are supportive parents. Just be gentle on him and dont argue with him about it, but rather talk about it. It's also good that you are accepting the fact that he needs to go to rehab. Other parents are not like that and ignore the fact that their children need help.

I am glad you are reaching out to others to help with this hard time. Do not be hard on yourself for not seeing this. How could you? It will get better......I promise.
