Staying Strong...?

I'm wondering how some people stay so motivated through their recoveries. I've been sober for three weeks and it seems like everyday I want to go back to my alcoholic days. I keep telling myself everyday it'll get easier but in reality it's not. I want to do this for me, but I felt more in control of my life when I was drinking everyday.

It seems to me that you need to find something or somebody to help you through this and to keep your mind occupied. Take up a hobby to keep yourself busy and keep your mind off of drinking.

Your addiction is telling you that it was easier to control you life that way. That is not so . I have been clean for 7 mths. I did not know it would feel this good. To not have that stuff clouding my mind and judgment, I thought there would never be an end of it for me everyday I had to have something . Try going to a meeting be around those who can help get your life straight and get that stinking thinking out of you .Be strong believe in yourself and your higher power in which I choose to call God.

I haven't had a drink in more than 5 years. I don't think the desire ever really goes away. The worst times I believe is when things are going wrong in your life. So far I've managed to stay sober but it's been extremely hard at times. Luckily I have a wonderful family who gives me support. I suggest you find some sort of support group, there's got to be someone you can turn to. Hang in there.

If there's a university close to you, usually they offer free counseling because the psychology graduate students needs hours but don't get me wrong, they're really great!

Like Squirrel mentioned it might feel as you felt more in control of your life during the time you was addicted to alcohol, it's just that you have had it alot and it's hard to stop think about after you have recovered you will know that alcohol was not the way.
