My name is Laura and I'm an addict. I did my first two years in AA because alcohol was the last drug I used, and the one that brought me to my knees in surrender. My AA sponsor suggested that I give NA a try, since I have so many different drugs in my story, and I really found a home there ("We don't care what or how much you used, who your connections were, how much or how little you have but only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help" and my favorite "Alcohol IS a drug. (period) The first night I went to Narcotics Anonymous this beautiful man smiled at me, and that was it! He said "We're glad you're here" and what I heard was "I'm glad you're here"... We were married on October 21, 2006, by HIS sponsor, and we started our wedding with the serenity prayer, as all good things in our life start there. On December 6, 2007 (God willing) I'll celebrate 4 years clean, and on December 11 he'll celebrate 7. I wouldn't trade my life today for a drink, or a joint or any other intoxicant. At meetings we say "Keep coming back!" but better yet, just don't leave. If you're here reading this then you're in the right place. God bless you all, and remember: Don't pick up, NO MATTER WHAT and life can only get better. If you stay clean long enough and don't die, eventually everything will happen to you (you'll get a job, lose a job, have a home, move to a different home, lose a loved one, get a pet, watch that pet grow old and pass away, have a lot of money, need some more money, be happy, sad, mad) but if you don't pick up you'll learn from it, survive it and be able to help someone else get through it when it's their turn. If you're terribly afraid of something, you will see someone in a meeting who has already gone through it and stayed clean, and they will be willing to help you get through it. We only keep what we have when we give it away, and we're really glad you're here!
