GF Has Xanax Addiction/Should I dump her?
GF Has Xanax Addiction/Should I dump her?

Here is the situation. I'm 30 years old and I just started dating this great girl. I think I love her, she has so many great qualities and we always have a great time together. However, I just found out that she has a problem with Xanax. She started taking it while going through her divorce. I found out about the problem by confronting her about her bizarre behavior. She would act drunk, despite drinking. She would lie and conceal what she was doing. She does not recall lengths of time and has a foggy memory. I am not sure what to do here. She has promised to get off of the pills, but I'm not sure if she is being sincere or not. If it weren't for the pills, I could honestly see myself marrying her. Any advice? I mean what should I do for instance, run away?

She is sick.. She's dealing with an illness and doesn't have control of her life. I think you should give her an ultimatum. Ask her if she actually does want help and to quit the drugs. If you see that she's not committed to recovery, then it would be best if you left the situation altogether to protect your own feelings. Those who are addicted, will do anything they can to protect their addiction. And it's impossible to get better unless they truly want to.

Talk to her about it and show her how important it is to you that she stops taking those pills, Show her what they do to your body and ask her if she really wants to be on them forever, like imagine having kids and being addicted to it, how would that affect your kids? Just mention a bunch of things like that to try to get her to want to quit. If she wants to then she will. I really dont think you should throw away the love you have for her for a problem that can be fixed. Just talk to her and if she agrees and wants to then find some help, and give her all the support you can. She will definitely need it.
