Researchers are finding processed foods, foods with a lot of carbs and even soda so..foods with a high glycaemic can cause an addictive sugar rush, which can lead to obesity. They might even start advertisements banning these products, strict regulations, high taxes and warnings on packages.

I've taken quite a few p.e.classes in college and had two personal trainers tell me that the best diet is fish, rice, and broccoli (or any vegetables) because it's the cleanest type of food, and it has some fat in it but the right type of oils.  And the healthy type of oils is what cleans out the bad oils that sit in your body and accumulate.  He told me that if I eat that meal three times a day for a month, he guaranteed that I would lose weight... It makes good sense to me, I guess we'll have to see if it works out.

This may be a stupid question, but don't fish contain mercury in them?

Fish is a good source of protein, and is low in saturated fat, is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit heart health.  Some fish contain Mercury, but this is more common in predatory fish and marine animals.  Women who are pregnant shouldn't eat : swordfish, shark, golden bass or golden snapper, or king mackerel.  Everyone else can eat 7 ounces of high mercury-fish per week.  Regarding fish with moderate levels, people can eat up to 14 ounces with mercury levels that average .5 ppm.
