When you are having a rough time who or where do you turn to?

First I turn to God... sometimes I turn to my sister or mom.  Once in a while my brother or close friends.  I'm sort of a private person and I don't like expressing my problems with tons of people, only those who really understand.

This might sound off the chain but sometimes I just turn to myself.  I feel like it's so easy to Go Go Go and let the world take over your life, but then I stop and think this is my life and I need to live it.  It's a healthy reality check for me, to stop and say like what the heck was I thinking about when this happened.  If we don't stop and appreciate the mistakes, then we'll never learn anything or to appreciate.  Otherwise everything is just a series of random events, it'd be completely meaningless.  So ya, once in a while I turn to myself but mostly my friends.

I have this one friend, although we dont hang out much, she lives in a different state and we met a few years ago. She is one of my best friends and every time I have a problem or whenever something good happens to me or anything I turn to her and I tell her. She always has the best advice and is always looking out for my own benefit. i dont have the greatest relationship with my mother, I can't really tell her secrets or anything so I dont turn to her much but I really wish I could.

I have a therapist that I share most of my life with.  I use to just converse with my girlfriend, but that wasn't going so well after we started having problems.  It's always best to rely on someone that has an unbiased opinion about your life.  Also my pastor is an excellent guidance.

I think trying to decide 'who or where' to turn to with regards to your addiction varies from person to person. For me, I turn to the activities that I enjoy. Do you like to exercise? For those who are addicts or even successfully recovered, use exercise as a form to avoid temptation and stay healthy. Consider your hobbies! That might be the best one for you or a close person that you've turned to in the past for advice. I think it has to be someone who you completely trust and can be open and comfortable with them.
