Crack Down in Illinois
Crack Down in Illinois

Illinois is cracking down on drunk driving this coming year. If they catch you driving while intoxicated you have to pay to get a breathalyzer installed in your car. If you are above the legal limit your car won't start. The device will also make offenders take the test within 15 minutes of driving and at least twice every hour while the car is on. The state expects to install 45,000 in 2009. I actually think this is a great idea. I know people who have gotten a couple DUI's and this would definitely eliminate some of these. I hope it works and more states follow them.

I think that if they see results than they should install these in more states. Think of how many lives are taken from drunk drivers. It's ridiculous and it seems like it's never the drunk person, but the innocent person driving somewhere.

I really like this idea. I know in California if you get caught with a DUI your license gets taken away for life now, but hows that supposed to teach anyone a lesson? They'll live forever regretting it but they can't do anything about it. And I don't think it will prevent that many either because when they drive they never think "hey I might get caught". But if these breathalyzers were installed I think it could prevent a lot of people and its a good idea, all states should adapt to this as well.

I agree Jasmine, if they are taking their license away they are letting them get a second chance and honestly I think we all need them. I think on the third one they should get their license taken away because they have already been warned twice at that point.

Also some people do that when they're young and stupid. Taking their licenses away for life is not the best solution. I do agree the third time though, they should take them away for life. I like the breathaliser idea though. I'm sure they could make it also look discreet in the car aswell. Not something huge that pops out like the big machine that cops use.

I'm not sure if it's this exact device, but they are putting some sort of breathalyzer in Charles Barkley's car. His blood alcohol level was .149 and in that state .15 is considered extreme DUI. Hopefully these devices work.
