My good friend told me yesterday his New Year's Resolution is to stop smoking. I'm so happy for him! I just hope he can stick with it, I know it's hard. Is setting a date good though? I think I have heard mixed reviews on this. I think some people think that you can just keep pushing back the date, but also I think it's good to set goals and try and stick with it. Do any of you have resolutions? Mine is to eat healthier.

I also have a friend who decided to quit smoking on New years... it's a good goal, but you're right... I think it's easier said than done! You have to keep working at it, especially since it's completely cold turkey. I heard it's best to wean yourself off of cigarettes, but either way you have to be really committed.

I believe that as long as quitting smoking is what he truly truly wants then he can do it. Cold turkey is really hard to do I think if he started gradually slowing down and then setting a date where he would never touch it again, is probably the best way to go. I'm really not good with sticking to my new years resolutions. I always end up giving in and then by the end of the year completely forgetting what my resolution was! I'm trying so hard to remember what mine was last year and I can't put my finger on it. My dad is so good at sticking with his resolutions, he does whatever he set his mind to and last year he decided to never touch a cigg again and still hasn't! At first he couldn't be around smokers either but now he can sit with them and still not pick up a single cigg.

I remember last year, 3 of my guy friends decided to make a new year's resolution to quit smoking. They were very serious about it, and were talking a bout it for weeks and finally decided to do it. There was even money set and the person that broke the pact had to pay money to those who lasted. It was really funny because we were all at a New Years party and I was talking to one of the guys and about 15 minutes after 12 o'clock, he casually lit up a cigg and started smoking, not even realizing what he was doing. All of his friends crept up on him and almost scared him half to pay up lol.

Your friend obviously didn't take the resolution seriously at all, considering he completely forgot about it shortly after.! That's pretty funny though.. I'd be mad LOL. It seems like there's such a stigma these days about how hard it is to quit. I think it can really psyche a lot of people out. I quit smoking over a year ago and I just kept thinking of all of the reasons why I wanted to.. and how much better it was for me in the long run to not be a smoker. Imagine developing lung cancer because of the ignorance of cigarettes, how dumb is that! Giving yourself a terminal disease just because it was
too hard
to quit years and years ago. Or having to walk around with a ventilator when you're only 60, not even being able to keep up with your grandchildren..!

Hi,
It's nice to know about the resolutions. My resolution in this new year is to make more and more friends so that I can enjoy my spare time with them.
