I read a trully inspiring story today, its about this lady named Tanna Cox. She is a 46 year old mother of four. 2 of her children have moved out already and are on their own but the other two were in state custody. She was a crack addict and an alcoholic, and for a while even homeless. She says during that time in life everything she remembered was hazy but she did whatever it took to not sleep on the streets. She moved in what a man that she felt would take care of her, it wasn’t for a while that she realised she was a prisoner in his house. He told her to go to his house and e’ll take care of her,she said she thought she was a little queen, he brought her her dope, her alcohol, cigarettes and pepsi. She was in high heaven. However he was also physically and mentally abusive. She tried to get out one day but he left his pit bulls in front of the house so that she wouldn’t leave, they were guarding the front door and the garage door and the deck had been removed from the back of the three story house.
All she had was television and she began watching a faith based program, and the idea of leaving became stronger everyday. She started feeding the dogs bologna daily, and they got used to her. One day he came home drunk one more time and she knew the dogs got used to her, she ran out the front door past the dogs and to a pay phone. One of the dogs bit her calf but that was it. She called the cops and at first they told her to go back to the house, she told them if they were to send her back there she’d kill him, so they took her to KARM.
She no longer is a prisoner to alcohol or drugs and is not loathing her seld. She finished all her classes at KARM, and now shes putting all those lessons to practice. She works at a café that’s owned by a minitry and cooks soul food for the hungry, and is also allowed to share her faith. She uses her paychecks to pay her bills from her harder years. And something she never thought possible, she got her kids back. She said it was absolutely amazing spending all of thanksgiving day with them. And being invited to watch her granddaughters play, she loved it all. Her quote is “I think of people like a flower near bloom. Some will bloom and be beautiful but somebody has to take care of them until they get there.”

She's truly a survivor!  I've heard it before, and in this case it's completely true; you have to really fight for your sobriety.  No one can ever slip so far into addiction that they can't overcome it.  It's a constant battle with your addiction, yourself, your friends, family... we are the only ones that know whats best for ourselves, sometimes you have to look deep down inside and truly think what's best for yourself and fight for that.

I'm thinking KARM is probably like a faith based rehab facility. This story is inspiriing, and I like her quote about the flower near bloom. It is very true, and everyone blooms at their own time. If no one is there to help them some may not come out right. Everyone needs people in their lives, and although many have a very hard time admitting it, many also need help many times in life. Nothing thats worth it comes easy, all good things require hard work.
