The makers of Oxycontin and three of its former executives pleaded guilty Thursday to misleading the public about the drug's risk of addiction. Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of Oxycontin, will pay $634.5 million in fines, after claiming the drug was less addictive than other pain medications. The company also agreed to pay $19 million to 26 states and the District of Columbia to settle complaints that it encouraged physicians to prescribe Oxycontin. I feel like many people are finally getting justice. This company released a highly addictive, potentially dangerous drug to an unsuspecting public.

Didn't they have to pay a large amount of money last year as well? They seem to get sued so much more than all other drug comapanies. I heard last year that they were also going to start adding a chemical in it that takes away the feeling of being high and just gets rid of the pain. That way users wouldn't be able to abuse them.

They're probably going to lose all of their profits made in these recent years just because of the lawsuits. I was always wondering during the time that Oxycontin was exploding in the drug world, why the company wasn't taking action. I know why.. it's because of the huge profit they were making but look at all of the trouble they're in now..
