Do you think it's possible that you can outgrow a specific addiction?  I think that, like a bump in a rug, if you squash one out, then another one will just pop up eventually. But I doubt you could 'outgrow' all addictions, being most of us recovering have addictive personalities.
Our thoughts create our reality.

I outgrew smoking pot a long time ago.  It use to be so fun, but now I have so many responsibilities, that buying a sack is the last thing on my mind.  But you're right.. as you get older, new addictions can pop up.  I've been drinking lately, and it could easily turn into an addiction, as it will become more available to me.

i went through a phase where I would keep taking painkillers. I felt like my day was boring without them, I'd take it twice a day everyday. And sometimes when I still cant feel it i'd take more. It was tough to stop too. I got headaches, and I even got kinda sick. But that passed and I'm over that. I dont think I would ever take one again. I was too dependent on them.

I think we're all really conscience of our bodies.  At least I am now that I'm older, I pay attention to my body responses and when I start taking certain medicines, I make a point to stop once the need subsides, other wise I'm bound to get some side affects. A couple weeks ago I started taking DayQuil every morning in order to fight a cold and help make it through the day.  Well I noticed that when taking the cold suppressant, I would feel more energized, but it made me less able to remember things.  This wasn't good because I had a test during this time and I felt like I couldn't remember anything.. It actually made things more stressful for me and I regret taking the high dose on that particular day.  All drugs have side effects, there's no denying that.  And I think eventually we all come to our senses at one point and realize that what we're doing to our bodies isn't good.  And at that point we need to make the choice to keep using or quit.

No you can not "outgrow" an addiction. And just because you do something for an extended period of time doesn't mean you we're addicted to it. If quitting a substance give you a headacke, that doesn't mean you were addicted. A true addiction gets worse over time, never better. And the person is unable to stop and stay stopped. And when a true addict does decided they want to stop, they will find that the have begun a life long journey of weeding through their own defects. Addiction has more to do with selfishness and a biological make up than headaches and consequences. Anyone can get a DUI not anyone can become an alcoholic. Everyone has the selfish ambishions of the alcoholic, but not the biological factors of the alcoholic.

Couldn't agree more, when I was addicted to painkillers and alcohol my mind was in a state that didn't need anyone or anything but drugs and alcohol. If it wasn't for http://drug-alcohol-abuse-treatment.com/
and friends, I wouldn't have ever thought about going clean, I just never wanted to face my fears. I had to weed my defects one by one in the journey but here i am, still recovering and trying.
