Italian medics diagnosed a 13-year-old boy with Playstation addiction after his desperate father rushed him to hospital.

At first doctors at southern Italy's Lecce hospital thought Lorenzo Amato was suffering from a stroke or a severe brain disorder.

The teenager couldn't speak and didn't seem to understand anything going on around him. Then doctors discovered he'd just finished a marathon session on his new Playstation.

Local politician Antonio Buccoliero, who spoke to the doctors, said: "They eventually managed to take care of him once they understood that this was a strange kind of mental detachment connected to his Playstation."

The youngster later ordered his dad to throw away the computer games system.

"If I even think about it I want to throw up," he said.

I wonder how long the marathon lasted.  That's crazy though that he actually went sort of mental from just playing the game.  At least he had the courage to throw it away!

OMG I never thought it was that serious. I knew game addictions were real but I never thought that a person would go mental. I thought they would just reeeaally want to play and their fingers would just move as if theyre playing and they'd get headaches but not have to be rushed to the hospital! Thats crazy!!

I'm glad the dad took him to the hospital and I'm glad the boy told his dad to get rid of it. He saw that he had a problem and did what he needed to in order to help himself.

Thats a very responsible kid, to admit that he has an addiction and that he needs to get rid of his addiction. Usually people with addictions although they want to quit they know its tough and they want it there just incase. So that was very strong of him to just say no and never want to see it again. Im sure he knew he would get sucked right back in!
