it affects the patients too!

I’ve heard several stories of nurses stealing from hospitals to fuel their prescription drug addiction. And their addiction seems to somewhat be bigger than any other normal addicts addiction, only because its so easy for them to obtain the drugs. But they’re all pretty much the same story, the nurse perscribes two pills to a patient and keeps one to themselves, or just take bottles from the medicine volt. But this is one that really interested me because not only does it affect the hospital and the nurse but also patients. This nurse would steal fentanyl, which is used for patients facing surgery, and substitute it with saline solution. The only thing that got the rest of the staff to catch on to this was when anesthesiologists noticed surgical patients reacting as if they had not received adequate painkilling drugs. The nurse is addiction was so bad that he would access a Pyxis machine, which is a device ued to automatically administer drugs to patients at certain times to obtain fentanyl sometimes as often as 25 times a day! Authorities say as many as 350 patients may have not received the painkiller at the intended time during surgery. I don’t know about you but I’m scared to have any surgery done when there might be a chance I’d be feeling everything that’s going on!

I think they should keep cameras where they're storing these meds. Its sad for a patient. I think I would sue the hospital if I was having surgery and was able to feel the entire thing! The scalpel cutting me open and their hands in my body and all the excruciating pain! Thats horrible! It's pretty selfish to do that to a person whether its intentionally or selfishly in order to fuel their addiction. Plus they worked so hard to get their nurses degree its also sad to watch have to throw all that away But if they had a camera in those vaults then the nurses or employees would get caught before its too late.

That sounds like that movie Awake, a guy has to undergo a heart surgery and although his body looks like he's under the anesthesia and cant feel a thing he can feel everything thats going on. And he was yelling because of the pain but since he was under the anesthesia he couldn't move, his body was paralyzed. He ended up finding out some people were trying to kill him, and it was a good movie. However I think if nurses were putting patients through that, having them bear all the pain of a surgery is horrible. It is probably extremely hard for an anesthesiologist to notice that, and giving them too much is dangerous as well. They should have to replace the whole stock or test it all out.
