A mother and father were arrested at their filthy cockroach filled apartment for having $2,200 in cocaine and a one year old baby with them. The drug was stashed in various places around their first floor apartment. The police were working off of tips that the couple was selling drugs. Police said the scent of the apartment was filthy with cockroaches, old food, dirty diapers and the smell of dog feces and urine. The baby was found sleeping in the bedroom with an extremely soiled diaper and the other child was at school.  Police say they found the drugs in separate baggies, one with 11 grams of cocaine, 4 separate baggies containing 3.7 grams of cocaine in a Newport cigarette box and another 16 holding 6.7 grams in a different box.
If they want to sell drugs then go ahead and do it and they can deal with the consequences but how could they be as heartless and careless as to expose their children to that dangerous environment. Not just the dangers that they could eat the drug or sniff it but also with the customers that come buy it.

The scene that you're describing isn't much different than the environment some of my friends grew up in.  The dirtiness of it doesn't matter when you're on drugs.  You just begin to care about nothing besides being high.  And it's horrible when kids are involved, living in the filth and around drugs 24/7.
