I was watching TV last night with my parents when a commercial popped up warning parents about perscription drug abuse. How they should monitor their perscriptions and make sure their kids are not taking any and abusing them. Many parents don't know about this and that is the last thing on their minds. What I didn't know was that my parents were one of those. The commercial was so serious it was as if they were talking about a murder, with scary music in the background. I have abused my parents perscription drugs before and then stopped. When the commercial finished my dads response was a sarcastic "oh wow, they make it seem like someones dying". It surprised me to see how lightly they took it and didn't know how serious it was. If my parents ever heard about my taking just a sip of alcohol they would go bilistic! They are extremely strict, and if they were informed of any of my drug use, that would be the end of my relationship with them. So it really surprised me how they didn't think anything of this addiction, which probably means many parents dont see that this addiction could be as harmful as heroin!

I knew a mother that would give her daughter vicodin everytime she was in pain. Eventually she realised her daughter was taking the vicodin daily and the mother started hiding the bottles. But even then she didn't get her daughter into trouble or anything. Its as if she just didn't care much but she would do little about it to stop her daughter. Her daughter eventually started just buying her own offline and takes them daily. Its wrong and so many people think its just like ibuprofen because a doctor provides you with it when its actually so incredibly bad for you and could lead to an opioid addiction. Parents need to be more informed of the harms that this little pill can do.
