They were talking on the radio about teachers having a MySpace. A few teachers called in and told the radio talk show host about how they were threatened if they didn’t delete their MySpace that they could lose their jobs. Apparently students often search for their teachers on MySpace and one teacher got in trouble for having indecent pictures of her in a bikini, and of her drinking and dancing. One of the teachers said she has a MySpace but she doesn’t add any of her students and she keeps her main picture as a cartoon character. I think it should be OK for a teacher to have a MySpace, it’s their lives them being a teacher shouldn’t stop them from that. I just don’t think it should be left un-private or that a teacher should add any students. Do you guys think it’s wrong for a teacher to have a MySpace?

I think it's okay as long as they're keeping it appropriate.  Myspace has regulations of pictures, you can't necessarily have pornography on your site, but it's a necessity to keep it decent.  Students often look to their teachers for guidance and can be great role models to students.  And I think the parents should have a say in this too.  Teachers should definitely keep it appropriate.

I think as long as the teachers keep it appropriate then theres nothing wrong with it. They have a life outside of school and people dont seem to realise that. I remember running into my 5th grade teacher at a bar in vegas! I was only 13 at the time but i was so surprised to see him so drunk! but Its his life and his job shouldn't take over that. In high school one of my teachers had a myspace and we were all friends with him and we'd comment him and everything. He was really nice and had no inapproriate pictures. They were just pictures of him and his wife or just him and some friends. They  should just keep their profiles decent incase students do come across them.

Ya I agree. Teachers are humans like everyone else. If they want to have a MySpace then they can't really stop them. They should be kept on private though and not accept any friends request from their students. Even if the child isn't in their class anymore.

Ya, I also agree. Just because of someones profession you can't tell them not to have a myspace. They should be responsible enough to know not to add students and whatnot, but some teachers don't know and that's when you have teacher-student relationships that are inappropriate.

I  think it is really stupid if they are threatening to fire them because of a myspace! It's their choice and it's their life outside of school, they are humans too and if they want to have a social life then they have a right to. I don't think that anyone should stop them but they shouldn't add students if they have inappropriate things on there.I also had a teacher who added all the students on myspace and she was cool with all of them. She had pictures of her kids and and husband on her page.
