making prostitution legal

San Francisco wants to make prostitution. Voters will be voting for Prostitution K next month. They want it to be illegal for local law enforcement to investigate arrest or prosecute anyone for selling sex. Proponents say the measure will free up $11 million the police spend each year arresting prostitutes.
I don’t think this is right, and I really hope that it doesn’t pass.

honestly I agree with this. Its the prostitutes life and if she wants to sell her body then so be it. Whats the difference between a prostitute and a pornstar? They're both having sex for money, the only diffrence is ones on TV and the internet. But I do think there should be laws against prostitutes working the streets. If they want to be prostitutes they should do it descretely and privately. Maybe give out cards and people could call and ask for their services. It's their life and whatever their consequences are, either std's diseases, extreme hate of their profession, and just punishments from God. But its their decisions so let them be.

I do not think this should be legal. Prostitution is wrong and it shouldn't be allowed. If a guy decides to get with a prostitute and gets a disease sure he deals with the consequences yet so does his wife and then his whole family. This is immoral and shouldn't be allowed by anyone. I think the $11 million used to prevent it is money well spent.

I think when you make something legal, you glorify it. And prostitution isn't something that should be glorified. It's not the women who are prospering from this, it's the pimps. Girls who are only responsible for themselves and aren't controlled by pimps often get hurt and killed. They have no one looking out for them, besides themselves and they're extremely vulnerable. Legalizing prostitution is allowing these girls to live corrupt lives, full of pain, absent of any feelings of self worth or happiness.

I agree with allessandra. That would Glorify it and those girls lives could be ruined. There's so many other things they could do for money. Heck if they wanna sell their body that bad for money they could go be porn starts. But prostitution is just making it worse and giving them a really bad life. No one should support that.

I think if a girl wants to be a prostitute then go ahead and be one. Its her own life that she is ruining and no body elses. But I dont think that pimps should be allowed, a lot of times the pimps sort of make the prostitutes sell their body and sometimes the prostitute is their very own girlfriend. Plus they make a profit out of nothing. Its wrong for pimps to do this, but its the girls body and her choice. If the girl is goign to get introuble for selling her body then her client should get introuble for buying it.

San Francisco has voted NO to prostitution. I'm actually glad about this. It was a controversial topic, but ultimately it didn't pass, although it was close... 57-42. The mayor was openly speaking about it, telling the public, "If Prop K passes, can you imagine living here?" "We cannot give a green light or a pass to predators of young women." In other cities who have voted on this issue in the past, there were larger percentages of voters supporting it. Decriminalization of sex workers rights and participation is rising..!

It's the same with marijuana. Legalize them, regulate and tax them. There goes 90-95% of the problems right there.
Man/Woman goes to pro and catches something, passes it along to
their S.O. Now in a regulated field that pro would have been required
to submit to regular STD testing and required to carry and present a
work card showing they are cleared to work. Prostitution is only
victimless when you don't have a pimp or agency taking 60% of your
profits. Legalization will get rid of these bloodsuckers.

I think if it was put in that way where prostitutes are regulated I could accept this proposition. It'll prevent a lot of diseases and it will be taxed and its safer, for the prostitutes and their clients.

The legalization of prostitution is both a moral and health issue. If it's completely outlawed, with the strictest laws and enforcement then of course disease would decrease. But on the other hand all of the moral issues come into play. People have the right to capitalize on their assets... that goes for women and men. And just because it become illegal everywhere, it doesn't mean that prostitution will ever go away. It'll just be completely undercover and organized crime will go up I'm sure.

I don't think prostitution will ever end. And right now laws aren't too strict for it. I do agree that diseases will grow out of it, but what if it was organized? What if they allowed prostitution, then prostitutes could be regularly checked for diseases. They could make sure that all the prostitutes are free of diseases and unable to pass any on. Also they could make sure that they use safe sex. Prostitution could also be taxed, and it will save us a lot of money if we quit trying to catch them all. I also think prostitutes should be drug tested, that way the ones who choose this path can choose it with a clear head, not just thinking about making money for their next hit. It's going to happen either way so we may as well make sure it happens the right way.

There are a lot of people who think the public is a victim in crimes of prostitution. I agree. But if it’s not a crime..then there really is no victim…right? So now I’m a little stuck. I agree that taxpayers suffer when our streets are filled with drug addicted hookers and exploitive pimps. But there is legal sexual careers out there. Strippers, porn actors and Nevada hookers are much better off than California street walkers..why? They have a business owner instead of a pimp paying their bills. But then…on the other hand (see how I make my opinions? waffling!)…On the other hand, legal sex workers are not THAT much better off. Drug addiction and psychological problems are fairly rampant in much of the industry, legal or illegal. Although in the illegal realm, I think non-drug addicts are exceptionally rare. A good percentage of strippers and legal prostitutes…oh wait oh wait..massage parlors..illegal… what little I know of them is that they aren’t all that bad off. Oh hell, i don’t know. I just know the strippers at the Lusty Lady in Seattle and SF have a union. I know porn actors are very close to having their own loose version of the union (health insurance and an organization that works on enforcing the rights of talent and producers). I know these improvements make the industry itself more palatable….for the women, the patrons and the management…and the public. Okay, I’m back to legalizing prostitution..you get more taxpayers and less tax dollars wasted. You get happier workers and better organized and better behaved managers. You get economy.
