God is pretty much my main reason for not drinking or doing drugs. I promised him drugs and alcohol were out of my life 2 years ago and I haven’t gone back on my word since. I just read about this study and it really caught my eye because it also relates to me. The study revealed that teen’s religious faith can reduce the risk of drug use by half. Religious involvement makes teens half as likely to indulge in drug abuse. Those who were religious were less likely to do drugs even when their closest friends were. They also found that individual religiosity buffered peer pressure for cigarette smoking and heavy drinking.
The protective effect of church and spirituality adds to the influence of parents. Children listen to their parents more. I can definitely second that; I became more religious when I was about 16, before that I never took what my parents said seriously. After learning more about religion and turning to God before anything I do, I started caring about what my parents wanted and didn’t want, I didn’t want to let them down and I listened to their every word without complaining. Something like that would’ve been impossible when I was 15.

It's so good that you made this decision when you were young! There are so many people who waited until they were old until they got right with God. Life is a lot harder when you decide to make your own decisions and live life on your own terms. He has a plan for all of us, and living on our own terms will result in us paying a high price for our sins. God's way is always best and we have to glorify him. I'm sure you're an inspiration to a lot of other teens your age, good for you!

I think its really amazing when teens are religious. Usually peer pressure and how your peers think of you get in the way of so many teens religious views. I knew of a few people in high school where religion played an extreme role on their lives. They're the ones who got the best grades, were always happy and grew up to be tremendous adults. All of the others who screwed up (i include myself) suffered more. I guess thats God's way of punishing us and we do deserve it. But even we will grow out of it. God is the most important thing in life and we take so much advantage of him. Listening to God and living in his path is the best way to live and we will always get the best outcomes by living that way.
