A guy I was really good friends with in high school came from a family who did not believe in credit cards and neither did he. His parents never used them, not even an ATM card, they took out enough cash that they needed and would just go into the bank and withdrawal more if they really needed more. He dated one of my friends and of course like every high school relationship they'd talk about how its going to be when they get married, things like that. He told her straight up that they will never have credit cards and that credit cards are the cause of all problems. I dont think thats true, I think if handled wisely credit cards are a good thing. What do you think?

I think it's necessary to have at least one credit card for emergencies.  Especially dealing with car trouble, you're not going to always have enough cash in the time of need.  And the banks are not open 24 hours a day.  If you're out of cash, then you're out of luck!

I think credit cards are a must. Can you even get loans if you dont have credit cards? because that shows that you have no credit.

I think to qualify for a loan, you have to have credit, or else if you don't, then you have to have a cosigner. 

I think everyone should have a credit card. If they prefer using cash then thats fine use cash instead. but to build up your credit its best to just get a credit card. They could just pay for something they buy with credit and just go pay their credit cards with cash right away!

I agree with all of you. Although his family was probably trying to avoid debt or overspending, I think it's really important to have one. Like others have said what if an emergency happens and you don't have enough cash on you and your bank isn't near. How did they qualify for a loan for their house? You need credit in life I think.

I guess they're just trying to stay precautious. I knew a girl who was really against credit cards at first. She said she would never get one and if she did she would only use it for emergencies. Well she turned 20 and got one and still said she will only use it for emergencies. She had no money once and she used it, after that she just continued and applied for more cards and was extremely bad at paying her bills. She cut them up and now owns no cards.
