Hilda Morales is the founder of the five mothers. She grew up with a brother who abused illegal drugs and eventually died because of complications from the abuse. Hilda was really shocked when she found out about the trend of teenagers using legal substances to get high. She is a mother of 4 and also had 14 foster children living in her home, so this issue worries her. She said if she had been in the dark about this trend with so many children in her life she could only imagine how many other parents weren’t aware of it. She thinks that because of the easy accessibility the dangers of cough medicine can be a little scarier than other drugs. People never look for empty cough medicine bottles, and not only is it in our home but we visit other homes too.  The five moms foundations ask moms to tell five other moms about cough medicine abuse by giving them a link to the site.
 I think this is very good because people don’t know about cough medicine abuse. I’m sure that’s the last thing on my parents minds.

I think cough syrup abuse is the last thing on any mothers mind. Its the last thing on mine and I'm 16! When I first heard about it I thought they were crazy. But a lot of people are trying it. And those coricidin pills, they're supposed to be for cough and cold and so many teens are abusing them. I have a friend who got expelled because she took them at school, she was a diabetic and I dont know what happened but she passed out and had to go to the hospital and then got expelled for taking them.
